Governor, CM pay tributes to Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg | Mehbooba describes him as a seasoned leader, astute politician, innovative administrator |
Srinagar, June 10, (Scoop News)-Paying tributes to Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg, former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, on his 35th death anniversary, Governor, Shri N N Vohra today said that Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg was a notable administrator and parliamentarian. “As Sheikh Sahib’s Revenue Minister, he was the architect of visionary land reforms and the enforcement of pro-tiller policies,” Shri Vohra said. He said Shri Beg would perhaps be remembered most for the maturity and farsight with which he conducted the extended parleys, in the mid 1970s, with the representative of the Union, leading to the “Beg-Parthasarthy Accord”, a landmark in J&K – Delhi understandings. “Shri Beg’s signal contribution to the evolution of Centre-State relations comprises an important chapter in the annals of Jammu & Kashmir,” he said.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has paid rich tributes to late Mirza Muhammad Afzal Baig on his 35th death anniversary which is being observed Sunday. In a message, the Chief Minister described late Baig as a seasoned leader who ruled the political canvas of the State for a pretty long time. She said the late leader was equally blessed with unmatched qualities of an astute politician and an innovative administrator which made him a class apart. Mehbooba Mufti said the role and contribution made by late Mirza Afzal Baig in the public life of Jammu & Kashmir would be remembered for ever. “His contribution in abolishing the Big Landed Estates, which led to equal distribution of land resources among people, has been monumental”, she said in her statement. People would continue to recall his far sightedness and maturity with which he conducted himself in politics and administration, the Chief Minister added.
