Authorities order release of Dr Farooq after seven months of detention

Srinagar, March 13, (Scoop News)-After revoking Public Safety Act (PSA) in case of former chief minister and president National Conference (NC), Dr Farooq Abdullah, has been released with immediate effect after undergoing detention for over seven months, an official order said on Friday.
Revocation of detention order has been signed by Mr. Shaleen Kabra (IAS), Principal Secretary to Government Vide order No. Home/ PB-V/ 702 of 2020 dated 13.03. 2020.
“In exercise of powers conferred under section 19 (1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act 1978, the Government hereby revoked the detention order bearing No. DMS/ PSA/120/ 2019 dated 15.09. 2019 issued by District Magistrate, Srinagar, extended for a period of 03 months vide Government Order No. Home/ PB- V/340 of 2019 dated 13. 12 2019 and then extended for a further period of three months vide Government Order No. Home/ PB- V/ 668 of 2020 dated 11.03. 2020 of Dr Farooq Abdullah S/o Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah R/o of Gupkar Road, Srinagar, with immediate effect.”
He was detained on August 5, 2019 and was lodged at his Gupkar Road residence, converted to sub jail after his detention.
Dr Farooq Abdullah, four times chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, he also represented the state on three different occasions in the parliament thrice. He was in the Union Council of Ministers as Minister for Renewable Energy during UPA- II led by Dr Manmohan Singh.
