Kargil,October 30 (Scoop News)- Director Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, UT Ladakh, Dr. Mohd Ismail today conducted a comprehensive visit to Drass subdivision and reviewed essential infrastructure projects in the livestock and fisheries sectors.
He was accompanied by Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAHO) Kargil, Mohd Amine, Assistant Director of Fisheries Kargil and Dr. Mohd Amine, Block Veterinary Officer (BVO) Drass, Dr. Ismail inspected key facilities aimed at advancing the welfare of animal husbandry and fisheries in the region.
During his visit, Dr. Ismail held a meeting with the Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon. They discussed various ongoing projects in the district, including infrastructure upgrades, livestock development programs, and strategies to boost sustainable fish farming under initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMSSY).
Dr. Akhoon emphasized the importance of these projects in strengthening Kargil’s rural economy and underscored the Hill Council’s commitment to working closely with the department to enhance the agricultural and livestock sectors in the district.
The Director’s field tour included visits to multiple Livestock Development Centres within Drass, where he reviewed facilities and ongoing initiatives supporting animal health, improved productivity, and farmer support services.
Following this, Dr. Ismail visited the newly constructed Veterinary Hospital in Drass, established under the Special Development Programme (SDP). Equipped with advanced treatment options, this hospital is intended to serve as a cornerstone of veterinary care, offering essential services and disease management resources to livestock owners in Drass.
Dr. Ismail’s team also assessed the Animal Check Post and Quarantine Centre at Minamarg, a critical facility near Drass. This center plays a vital role in maintaining biosecurity by monitoring animal health and regulating livestock movement across regional borders, thus helping prevent the spread of diseases.
The Director also visited private fish farms established under PMSSY, where he discussed future needs and opportunities with local fish farmers. These fish farms contribute to diversifying the rural economy and provide sustainable income for communities, supporting the broader objective of economic resilience and sustainable development in Kargil.
Dr. Ismail’s meeting with Dr. Akhoon and his extensive site visits reflect the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department’s commitment to bolstering infrastructure, enhancing support services, and working collaboratively to ensure sustainable development in Kargil.
The Director reaffirmed the department’s dedication to modernizing animal husbandry and fisheries practices, aligning with the LAHDC Kargil’s vision of fostering economic growth and resilience for the region’s rural communities.
