Workshop on “Safer Internet Day” at GDC Samba

Jammu, February 11 (Scoop News)-A workshop on “Safer Internet Day” on the theme “Together for a Better Internet” was organized by Shri Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Government Degree College, Samba under the patronship of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Twinkle Suri. The event was organized as part of MeitY’s Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) Project. Dr. Deepika Jalotra, Sub Inspector- SIDCO Police Chowki was invited as the key-note speaker. The primary objectives of the workshop were to create awareness regarding safe use of Internet, common cyber threats, social engineering threats, awareness about cyber hygiene practices and mechanism to report cyber crimes. The event began with a warm welcome to the participants by Dr. Papinder Bhagat, convenor NCord cell of the college. In his address, he highlighted the importance of cyber security in today’s times and said that Cybersecurity is essential for protecting data, systems, and privacy from cyber threats, ensuring safety and trust in the digital world. The program featured Sub Inspector Deepika as the special speaker, who delivered an insightful session on cybercrime awareness, online fraud prevention, and digital responsibility. She emphasized the significance of secure online practices and guided students on how to safeguard their personal data from cyber threats.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Twinkle Suri highlighted the growing need for digital literacy in the present era and encouraged students to use the internet wisely. She stressed that educational institutions play a crucial role in shaping responsible digital citizens.
The workshop included engaging activities like case studies of cybercrimes and discussions on how to prevent them. The participants expressed a deeper understanding of internet safety and acknowledged its relevance in today's digital era. The event also included an interactive session where students actively participated by asking questions and sharing their experiences regarding online security. The Computer Applications Department of GDC Samba played a key role in organizing the event, ensuring that students gained practical insights into maintaining a safe digital presence.
The event successfully reinforced the message of "Together for a Better Internet", empowering students with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the digital world securely. The workshop concluded with a vote formal vote of thanks by Asst. Prof. Dr. Neha Jain.
