Leaves Room for Future Consideration

Jammu, March 11 (Scoop News)-The Jammu and Kashmir administration has acknowledged but declined an immediate proposal for the creation of Thathri and Bhaderwah districts, stating that no such administrative reorganization is currently under consideration. However, officials have indicated that the demand may be reviewed if the government initiates the formation of new districts in the future.

The appeal, spearheaded by the Chenab Times Foundation, was submitted to the Lieutenant Governor’s office and senior government officials. The foundation argued that the existing administrative framework in the Chenab Valley makes governance inefficient, delaying development and essential services. The petition emphasized that new districts would ensure better accessibility, governance, and infrastructure for residents of these remote regions.

The Department of Public Grievances formally responded to the application submitted by Anzer Ayoob, president of the Chenab Times Foundation, stating:

"At present, there is no proposal regarding the creation of administrative units. However, when such a proposal is initiated by the Government, the applicant's demand will be considered on its merits."

While this response does not indicate any immediate administrative action, it leaves the possibility open for future consideration.

Despite the current setback, activists and local stakeholders remain hopeful that their demand will be addressed when the government reviews the need for new administrative units. The Chenab Times Foundation has urged authorities to prioritize the creation of Thathri and Bhaderwah districts, emphasizing their importance for governance efficiency and regional development.

The demand for new districts is not new in Jammu and Kashmir. Past reorganizations, especially after the revocation of Article 370, have reshaped the region’s administrative structure. Observers note that while the government may not be pursuing district bifurcations at present, continued advocacy and public support could influence future decisions.

For now, the residents of Thathri and Bhaderwah will have to wait, hoping that their call for administrative recognition gains traction when the government next considers new districts.
