Jammu, January 18 (Scoop News)-All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations, J&K hasheld a day-long hunger strike on January 18, 2026 from 10 am to 4 pm under the statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at Ambedkar Chowk, Rail Head, Jammu. State president R.K. Kalsotra said that hunger strike was aimed at pressuring the J&K UT government to address what he described as "systematic denial of rights and administrative apathy."The Confederation has been regularly raising its voice for the restoration of reservation in promotions, which has been put on hold following the High Court verdict.Kalsotra said that if the Parliament can change the Supreme Court's decision in the Indra Sawanhey case to stop reservation in promotions, after 1997 through 77 th Constitutional amendment,then why can't the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly change the Jammu and Kashmir High Court's decision on reservation in promotions?We observed hunger strike to press the and ask the Jammu and Kashmir government to bring a bill in the upcoming assembly session to nullify the High Court's decision on reservation in promotion and restore the reservation in promotion from he date it was stopped ie Oct.2015 of the reserved class employees. Kalsotra steated that union govt enacted constructional amendments like 81st,82nd and 85th to override the ill affects of reservations and exhorted the UT Govt to bring legislation to provide Reservation to reserved classes for ensuring their share in governance of affairs of the state.
Apart from this, Kalsotra said that it is the moral responsibility of the ruling and all other political parties to join hands and unanimously pass the bill to implement social justice for SC, ST, OBC and cancel the High Court order by restoring reservation in promotion to the reserved category employees.
RK Kalsotra State President of Confederation also appealed the Government to address all pending issues of SC, ST,OBC communities, memorandum of which was submitted to Government in March 2025 .
