Child Protection Training Focusing Preventing Suicides held at Jammu

Jammu, January 20 (Scoop News)-District Administration Jammu, in collaboration with National Development Foundation Jammu, and with support from HDFC Bank Parivartan Programme, anchored by Bharat Cares, organised a one-day training on Child Protection, focusing on Child Rights and prevention of suicides among Children and Students.
The training was held on the initiative of District Magistrate Jammu Sh. Rakesh Minhas, the Programme was inaugurated by Sh. Sher Singh ADDC Jammu, while Sh. AjayPal Singh, Joint Director/CPO Jammu, Mr. Pankaj Anand PO ICDS, Jammu, Mr. Ajeet Sharma CEO Jammu, Dr Preeti DSWO, Ms. Farha Nishat DYSP HQ, Dr Rupali ALC , Ms. Ridhi from Bharat Cares and around 75 officers from Education, Health, Labour, Police, Mission Poshan, Mission Vatsalaya, and PD and MD participated in the training. Dr Pallvi Sachdeva Asst. Professor Department of Lifelong Learning, Sh. Ajeet Sharma, CEO, Jammu, and Dr Romesh Sharma, HOD DIET, Jammu, and the divisional Nodal for DIETS on Counselling were the resource persons. Ms Nisha Pandita, Programme Officer from NDF anchored the training, while the vote of thanks was presented by Sunny Kumar, Programme Manager, National Development Foundation, Jammu.
Rajiv Kumar Khajuria, noted Child Rights strategist, Honorary patron National Development Foundation, in his Keynote address called upon the coordinated efforts of Families, schools, community and child protection mechanisms to prevent suicides. He maintained that the broader Juvenile Justice system is key to the situation, as the Children in distress are the children in need of care and protection.
AjayPal Singh, Joint Director/CPO Jammu, in his address, informed that the Task Force on Suicide Prevention, led by the DM Jammu, is making efforts in this regard. Pankaj Anand, PO ICDS, and Dr Preeti, DSWO, also spoke and briefed the participants on the existing mechanisms and the child helpline 1098, which anyone can access to support children in difficult circumstances.
Sher Singh, ADDC Jammu, in his address, informed the house that the District Administration of Jammu is supporting around 200 children in need of care and protection. He said that the administration will form a district action plan on preventing suicide among children and adolescents. He also asked Dr. Preeti to propose a meeting of District level child welfare and protection committees which is a sustainable structure envisioned in Mission Vatsalaya and as per the principles of the juvenile Justice Act. He complimented the efforts of the National Development Foundation, Jammu, and extended full support of the District administration, Jammu, to the Foundation.
