Jammu, March 31 (Scoop News)-The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has generated an impressive revenue of approximately ₹62 lakh during March—the final month of the financial year 2025–26—through its most extensive campaign against ticketless travel and irregularities. The achievement not only reflects a significant increase in revenue but also highlights sustained efforts to ensure discipline, accountability, and transparency within railway services.
According to official figures, around 11,000 individuals were apprehended during ticket checking operations for traveling without valid tickets or engaging in irregular travel practices. The large-scale drive was conducted across the division with a focused approach to curb unauthorized travel and promote compliance with railway rules.
The success of the campaign has been attributed to the ‘Zero Tolerance’ initiative carried out under the guidance of Uchit Singhal. Under this initiative, intensive and systematic checks were conducted by covering key entry and exit points at major railway stations, including Jammu, Katra, Srinagar, Pathankot Cantt, and Badgam.
Special emphasis was laid during the Navratri festival period, when passenger traffic witnessed a significant surge. Despite the heavy rush, ticket checking staff maintained high vigilance and efficiency, ensuring that unauthorized passengers were effectively identified and penalized, while genuine passengers were not inconvenienced.
Highlighting the efforts, Uchit Singhal stated that the month of March is always operationally challenging due to increased travel demand. He commended the ticket checking staff for their dedication, noting that they worked round the clock to uphold passenger discipline and service standards. He emphasized that the revenue generated is not just a financial gain but also a reflection of growing public trust and adherence to railway regulations.
The Jammu Division has also appealed to passengers to travel with valid tickets, reminding them that ticketless travel is a punishable offense under the Railways Act, 1989. Passengers have been advised to use authorized ticketing options such as the UTS mobile app, ATVMs, or the RailOne app to ensure a smooth and hassle-free travel experience. The initiative stands as a strong example of effective enforcement and public service, reinforcing the commitment of Northern Railway towards maintaining integrity and efficiency in its operations. |
