Gutargoon- story telling series- DSEJ launches its initiative towards NIPUN Bharat

Jammu, July 10 (Scoop News)-Foundational learning is the basis of all future learning for a child. Not achieving basic foundational skills, particularly in literacy and numeracy, leaves the child unprepared for the complexities of curriculum beyond grade 3.
In this context, the Ministry of Education has issued guidelines under NIPUN BHARAT to cover the learning needs of children in the age group of 3 to 9 years.
This initiative envisages making the experience of learning at the foundational stage - "Holistic, Integrated, Inclusive, Enjoyable, and Engaging".
Keeping up with this, the Directorate of School Education Jammu, in collaboration with Eduweave Foundation is organising a month-long engagement with children in foundational years through story telling sessions, starting as of today.
Story telling is a very useful teaching strategy of developing students' literacy and reading comprehension at the foundational stage.
Listening to stories sets the stage for reading, by introducing children to a broad range of language components including new vocabulary and metaphorical extension, as well as establishing general skills of spelling and grammar.
These story telling sessions will be organised on every Saturday, throughout the month of July. The first day itself, witnessed huge response from students and parents, with an audience of 400 participants to begin with.
Resource persons from Eduweave Foundation, Anandi and Amita Kaushik enthralled the audience with their stories and follow up tasks, ensuring that the children participate enthusiastically.
Dr. Ravi Shankar Sharma, Director School Education, Jammu urged the teachers towards using such effective teaching strategies in their own classroom transactions which can optimise the language proficiency of the learners.
He appreciated the efforts of the team for making the event successful while keeping it interesting and educative.
This event is being organised under the supervision of Ms. Mamta Sharma, Deputy Director Planning, coordinated by Ms. Jaswinder Kour, Coordinator, DRC for Pre-primary Education, Jammu, while technical support is being provided by UNICEF, J&K.
