Cleanliness Drive organised at Kharu Market


Leh, April 27 (Scoop News)- A cleanliness drive was organised in Kharu Main Market today on April 27. The drive was a collective effort of UT Administration of Ladakh, Kharu Market Merchant Association, community members Kharu and the drive was implemented by CII Foundation.

The primary focus was to emphasise the importance of community waste management and the significance of waste management practices in the region.

Sub Divisional Magistrate, Kharu, Sonam Dorjay, highlighted the urgent need for effective waste management practices and the role it plays in preserving the pristine beauty of the Himalayas. He commended the dedicated efforts of the CII Foundation members for their commitment to waste management. He also acknowledged the Market Association and house owners for their diligent adherence to waste continuity measures, ensuring cleanliness in every corner of the market. He added the importance of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and how this concept holds immense relevance in curbing waste and preserving the ecological balance of this pristine landscape.

Block Development Officer, Kharu, Manzoor Hussain spoke about waste management in Ladakh. He emphasised on waste management practices specific to Ladakh and stressed significance of the Swachh Abhiyan campaign and highlighted its impact on the overall wellness and health of the community.

Chairman, CII, Nawang Thinles delivered a speech, providing CII's perspectives on waste management in Ladakh. He emphasised the significance of waste management and the role played by the CII Foundation in promoting sustainable practices.

A total of 275 people participated in this cleanliness drive. As a gesture of support, the CII Foundation distributed free dustbins to all Market Association members. The President of the Merchant Association received a total of 18 dustbins for the market area, while 2 were given to the local police post in Kharu.

The event witnessed active participation from various stakeholders, including members of the Merchant Association, Army representatives, and GREF representatives.
