Pahari Qabila Samman Samaroh held at Jammu University


Jammu, February 10 (Scoop News)-A significant cultural cum felicitation event was held at the MCA Department, Jammu University, in which a book written in Pahari language “Hathi Ne Dandh” authored by Advocate Altaf Hussain Janjua was also released. The book was released on the sideline of a ceremony organized under the banner of the “Pahari Tribe ST Forum J&K and was titled “Pahari Qabila Samman Samaroh.” This event was organised to commemorate the completion of one year of of the historic decision by the Government of India to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Pahari ethnic group of Jammu and Kashmir.

The book “Hathi Ne Dandh” was released by a distinguished group of guests, including the Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Pahari Advisory Board, Sapna Kotwal; SSP Anti-Corruption Bureau, Rashid Butt; Commandant of IRP 12 Battalion, Mumtaz Ahmed (IPS); retired IGP Raja Ajaz Ali (IPS); former MLA of Karnah, Raja Manzoor Ahmed; SP South Jammu, Ajay Sharma (JKPS); renowned Pahari poet and writer, Sheikh Azad Ahmed Azad; renowned poet Rashid Qamar; former Warden of Pahari Hostel Rajouri, Azam Shah; former Secretary of the Pahari Advisory Board, Shaukat Kazmi; Head of Cardiology at Super Specialty Hospital Jammu, Dr. Sushil Sharma; former Secretary of the Pahari Advisory Board, Kartar Singh (KAS); and former Additional Advocate General and Senior Executive Member of the Pahari Tribe ST Forum J&K, Ahsan Mirza, J&K Rehbrea Taleem Teachers Forum General Secretary Jahangir Alam Khan and Pahari Activist Ayoub Pehlwan. Also present was Professor Nitin Sharma from the Jammu University Law School in the august presence of lawyers, civil and police administration officers from the Pahari community, students and scholars from Jammu University, as well as students residing in the Pahari Boys Hostel in Jammu.

This is the first book authored by Altaf Hussain Janjua in the Pahari language. During the event, guests congratulated him on this achievement and wished him success with his future literary works, as he has three more books in the pipeline.

The event, which took place at the Conference Hall of the MCA Department, was attended by a wide range of distinguished individuals, including Swami Anter Nirav, Bharat Bhushan Ved, Advocate Iftikhar Bazmi, former Additional Advocate General Arshad Malik, former Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Advocate Chetan Masri, General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Young Lawyers Association, Preeti Sharma, Advocate Zamir Muslim Qurehsi, Adv. Gurdev Singh Thakur, Advocate Qamar, , Adv. Ashfaq Khan, Adv. Mehmood Mirza . Advocate Yasir Farooq Khan, Kamran Ajez, Shafat Shaheen, Nadeem Ahmed Mir Advocate Yasir Farooq Khan, and several other notable advocates. Journalists Saima Qazi and Murtaza Aqsir were also present, along with poet and retired Headmaster, Yaqoob Khan Janjua.

This gathering was a proud moment for the Pahari community, marking both their literary achievement and the significant political recognition of their status as a Scheduled Tribe. The event aimed to recognize the ongoing efforts to preserve and promote Pahari culture and language.
