Govt to introduce new Award Scheme in Culture : Chief Secretary | |
Jammu, March 23 (Scoop News)-Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, today announced that the government will soon introduce an award scheme in the field of culture to encourage and recognize the lifelong contributions of versatile artists, writers, and performers from the region. He made this announcement while addressing the valedictory function of the camp and exhibition on Modern and Contemporary Art at Kala Kendra, Jammu. The event was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, Kala Kendra Society, and Amar Mahal Museum and Library, Jammu.
He stated that cultural institutions would be empowered and developed, ensuring that the artist community receives its due recognition. He emphasized that Kala Kendra and the Cultural Academy are premier institutions and assured that the government will provide a significant boost to Performing and Visual Arts in Jammu and Kashmir. He also highlighted the formulation of a well-defined Cultural Policy for the Union Territory.
On the occasion, Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner Secretary, Culture and Social Welfare, attended as the special guest. Other dignitaries present on the dais included Dr. Javaid Rahi, Secretary, Kala Kendra Society; K.K. Siddha, Director, Archives, Archaeology, and Museums; Dr. Lalit Gupta, eminent art historian; and Colonel (Retd.) Sudip Mitra, Joint Director, Amar Mahal Museum and Library.
Sanjeev Verma, in his address, emphasized that culture is an essential component of society. He stated that the department is focusing on conserving heritage sites while simultaneously working towards preserving and promoting the rich languages and literature of Jammu and Kashmir. He further mentioned that new schemes will be introduced to support and enhance cultural activities in the Union Territory.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Javaid Rahi highlighted that Kala Kendra has organized 35 major activities in the past year, including exhibitions, camps, and workshops, to promote visual art activities. He mentioned that rare works of around 100 artists from across Jammu and Kashmir are currently on display at the exhibition.
Dr. Lalit Gupta suggested that the government should establish a corpus fund to sustain the Kala Kendra Society. He also recommended the development of dedicated galleries for Visual Arts and the introduction of art studios in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the event, renowned artist Manoj Chopra presented a caricature of Atal Dulloo as a token of appreciation.
Other eminent personalities who interacted with the artists included Gokal Dembi, Suman Gupta, Bhushan Kesar, Shruti Awasthi (Director, IGNCA), Sarishti Sehni (INTACH), K.K. Gandhi, Bheshambar Mehta, Milan Sharma, Rakesh Sharma, O.P. Sharma, Sanjeev Rana (Additional Secretary, JKAACL), and Sangeeta Sharma (Deputy Director, Archives), among others.
The program was conducted by Rachita Gupta, an art educator from IMFA, while the Vote of Thanks was presented by Colonel (Retd.) Sudip Mitra. ... |
