Meeting Held to Finalize Arrangements for 16th National Voters’ Day, 2026 at Leh

Leh,January 17 (Scoop News)-Shri Ghulam Mohd, JKAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh, today chaired a meeting to discuss and finalize arrangements for the celebration of the 16th National Voters’ Day (NVD), 2026 at the District Headquarters, Leh. The meeting was held at the Mini Conference Hall, DC Office, Leh.

National Voters’ Day is celebrated annually on 25th January across India to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India and to promote electoral participation. Like every year, a series of activities will be organized in Leh district to encourage voter awareness, particularly among newly eligible voters.

It was decided that events would be organized at polling stations, where newly enrolled voters will be felicitated through the issuance of Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) and badges. The Voters’ Pledge will be administered, with special emphasis on encouraging first-time voters and addressing issues related to voter enrolment. Awareness camps and small functions will also be organized at each sub-division in the presence of Nambardars and local representatives.

To further engage youth, NCC students will actively participate in the programme. The theme for National Voters’ Day 2026, “My India, My Vote”, will be highlighted through various outreach activities. To maximize public engagement, it was also decided to display banners and other awareness material at venues of the Khelo India Winter Games.

As 25th January falls on a Sunday, it was decided that officers at all district levels would take the Voters’ Pledge on 24th January 2026 at the Block, Sub-Divisional, and Panchayat levels. The pledge material will be distributed on 23rd January 2026. Public icons will also be involved to amplify voter awareness.

The main district-level function will be held at DIHAR, Leh, with online inauguration of all stalls by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, UT of Ladakh. Officials including ALOs, BLOs, EROs, AEROs, and BLAs were directed to ensure maximum voter enrolment and participation.

The meeting was attended by the Assistant Director Tourism, Zonal Education Officer, and other concerned officers, both in person and virtually.
