Kargil Tackles Traffic Woes: DC Chairs Meet on Decongestion
Smart Mobility and Urban Planning Reforms

Kargil, April 09 (Scoop News)-A meeting regarding traffic de-congestion and urban mobility in Kargil was convened today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Sh. Rakesh Kumar, IAS, at his office chamber.

The meeting focused on addressing the growing issue of traffic congestion in Kargil town and exploring measures to improve urban mobility, public convenience, and overall town planning.

Detailed discussions were held on removal of encroachments, adjustment of parking facilities for transport unions, and development of adequate facilities for tourists in and around the town area. The meeting also reviewed the assessment of truck stands and emphasized ensuring smooth and regulated movement of traffic both within and outside the town.

The Deputy Commissioner directed strict action against encroachments and instructed the concerned departments, particularly the Revenue and Municipal authorities, to take necessary measures for their removal and proper adjustment in a planned manner.

Issues related to shifting of bus stands and regulation of bus movement were also deliberated. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for better road planning and effective implementation of smart city initiatives to enhance urban management. The installation of solar-based temporary traffic lights and lighting arrangements was also discussed to improve traffic regulation.

Furthermore, emphasis was laid on strengthening road safety awareness among the public. A significant proposal discussed during the meeting included provision of free bus services for differently-abled persons and students to ensure inclusive and accessible transportation.

Officers who attended the meeting included Senior Superintendent of Police, Kargil; Project Officer, Wages (ACD), Kargil; Executive Engineer, PWD Circle; Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic Kargil; Executive Engineers of PHE, R&B-II, and PDD; representative of Municipal Committee Kargil; and Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Kargil.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for inter-departmental coordination and timely action to resolve traffic-related issues and improve the overall urban infrastructure of Kargil.
