| Police Conduct Awareness Campaigns in Awantipora, Bandipora & Shopian | | Srinagar, April 19 (Scoop News)-Police have organized awareness campaigns under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan to sensitize the general public about the harmful effects of drug abuse and tobacco consumption in Awantipora, Bandipora & Shopian.
Police Station Tral conducted an awareness drive wherein posters highlighting the ill effects of drugs and tobacco were displayed at various public places to educate and alert the community. The campaign witnessed active public participation, with police personnel interacting with locals and spreading awareness about the importance of leading a drug-free life. During the drive, action was also taken against violators of tobacco control laws, and several individuals were fined under the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) for offences such as smoking in public places.
Meanwhile, Police Station Khrew organized a drug awareness programme at Sharshalli under the supervision of SDPO Pampore. During the programme, locals were sensitized about the dangers of drug abuse and its adverse impact on individuals, families, and society.
In Bandipora, Police in coordination with the Drug Control Team, carried out a comprehensive checking drive under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign. The drive specifically targeted chemist shops operating in close proximity to schools and colleges. The primary objective was to ensure compliance with prescribed norms, verify records related to the sale and stock of medicines, and prevent the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs, particularly among the youth. During the inspection, necessary directions were issued on the spot to the concerned chemists to strictly adhere to established guidelines and maintain proper documentation.
Moreover, a drug awareness programme was also organized at Police Station Hajin. Members of the public participated in the programme and were sensitized about the harmful effects of drug abuse. The session emphasized the vital role of community participation in combating substance abuse and building a drug-free society.
In Shopian, Police, organized an awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan in Zainapora with local community members and conducted a sticker campaign in Keller. These programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the local community, along with officials from the Police and Civil Administration. The initiative aimed to educate community members about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage the adoption of a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
During the session, speakers highlighted the growing menace of substance abuse and its far-reaching impact on individuals, families and society. Participants were also sensitized about the legal consequences of involvement in drug-related activities and were encouraged to act as ambassadors of change by spreading awareness within their communities.
These initiatives aim to promote a drug-free society and encourage citizens to adopt a healthy and responsible lifestyle. J&K Police urged the public to cooperate and share information regarding drug-related activities to help eradicate this menace from society.
