| CEC Dr Jaffer inspects temporary school building for Specially Abled Students at Kurbathang | |
Kargil, May 04 (Scoop News)- Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today conducted an inspection of the temporary school building for specially abled students, located at Kurbathang, near the Airport, Kargil.
Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, IAS, District Social Welfare Officer, Dr. Sarwar Shehzad, JKAS, Chief Education Officer, Kargil, Sonam Wangchuk, and Executive Engineer, R&B, Mansoor Hussain, accompanied the CEC during the inspection.
The facility, which has been set up on a temporary basis in accordance with the student strength, is designed to function as a Day Boarding cum Residential (Boarding) institution to ensure holistic care and education for specially abled children.
During the inspection, the CEC thoroughly assessed all rooms and facilities, and directed the concerned officers to ensure that the entire infrastructure is made disabled-friendly in every respect. He further directed that the facility be made fully functional within two weeks. The CEC also assured the provision of dedicated transport facilities for the students and directed the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Kargil, to ensure that the vehicle procured for this purpose is disabled-friendly and accessible.
Regarding staffing, the CEC confirmed that a total of 14 staff members have been assigned to the facility. While interacting with the Special Educators posted at the facility, the CEC emphasised that specially abled students deserve and require special care and attention.
The facility will provide both rehabilitation and educational services to specially abled students, with the Rehabilitation Centre being facilitated under the District Social Welfare Department and the educational component under the Education Department.
Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, IAS, also directed the officers to compile and maintain an updated list of specially abled students from all schools across the district. The DC further confirmed that there shall be no shortage of staff in any aspect of the facility’s functioning, assuring complete administrative support for its smooth operationalisation.
Following the inspection, the CEC, accompanied by the DC Kargil, and CEO Kargil, also visited the hostel accommodation for boys and girls, housing students of Class 10th appearing in compartment examinations. While interacting with the students, the CEC encouraged them, underscoring the paramount importance of education and assuring them of continued staff support and availability.
The CEC also appreciated and commended the dedication and efforts of DC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, IAS, and CEO Kargil, Sonam Wangchuk, for their commendable work in providing a conducive environment and support for the students appearing in compartment examinations.
