| Police Intensifies Crackdown on Narcotics Cultivation In Anantnag | |
Srinagar, May 08(Scoop News)- In continuation of its relentless campaign against narcotics and illegal cultivation of contraband crops, police in Anantnag achieved another major success by detecting and destroying illegally cultivated opium poppy crops at two separate locations in the district and registering cases under the NDPS Act against the persons involved.
Police Station Achabal received credible information through reliable sources that one person namely Abdul Rahman Rather son of Ghulam Ahmad Rather resident of Khudpora, Nowgam had illegally cultivated opium poppy plants on his land. Acting promptly on the information, FIR No. 35/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Achabal. During investigation, the Investigating Officer along with the Executive Magistrate and officials of the Agriculture Department visited the spot for verification, where illegal cultivation of opium poppy was found on land measuring approximately 01 Marla. The entire crop was destroyed on the spot as per legal procedure.
Similarly, Police Station Aishmuqam received reliable information regarding illegal cultivation of opium poppy by Abdul Khaliq Bhat son of Abdul Razak Bhat. Acting swiftly, a joint team comprising officials from the Revenue Department, Excise Department, Agriculture Department and Police visited the spot for on-spot verification. During verification, it came to fore that the land under cultivation was Shamilat land in possession of Abdul Razak Bhat son of Mohammad Bhat, and approximately 01 Marla of land was found under illegal poppy cultivation. Accordingly, FIR No. 39/2026 U/S 8/18 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Aishmuqam against Abdul Razak Bhat and investigation has been taken up.
Police remains committed to uprooting the narcotics menace from society and warns all those involved in cultivation, trafficking or peddling of narcotic substances that strict legal action shall continue.
