| NC strongly Condemns Demolition drive at Bandhi (Mahamaya Rakh) | | Calls It Assault on Justice, Violation of SC Guidelines, 2006 tribal act | 
Jammu, May 20(Scoop News)-Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Ratan Lal Gupta on Wednesday condemned the demolition drive in Bandhi (Mahamaya Rakh),Jammu calling it a “ruthless assault on human dignity, constitutional rights and justice.”
He visited the site alongwith in Javed Ahmad Rana, Honble Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest & Tribal Affairs visited the demolition site to express solidarity with the affected families. Gupta said the demolition violated Supreme Court guidelines that prohibit authorities from razing residential houses without issuing mandatory show-cause notices. He alleged that the action reflected a “lawless and ruthless” approach in which a particular community was targeted.
He said the drive also violated the spirit of the Forest Rights Act, 2006, and accused the administration of showing “complete insensitivity towards poor and vulnerable families.” “Women, children and the elderly were allegedly mishandled during the operation. Locals said the demolition was carried out early in the morning, leaving families with no time to save their belongings, including food grains, clothes and essential household items. Today, everything lies under rubble and people are in deep shock,” Gupta said.
Calling the action “inhuman and unjust. “This is not merely the demolition of structures, but the crushing of hopes and dignity of poor families,” he said. Gupta urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally intervene and ensure immediate rehabilitation of the affected families. He demanded adequate compensation, temporary shelter, food supplies and medical assistance for the victims, especially women, children and the elderly.
“With Eid barely a week away, the administration must answer where and how these families are expected to celebrate the festival after being rendered homeless,” he said.
In the evening a deputation headed by Rattan Lal Gupta Advocate Provincial President Jammu alongwith Shamim Begum former DDC Dansal, Shama Akther former Corporator, Rehmat Ali former BDC Chairman, Wali Mohd, Jamat Ali, Inayat Ali and Hanif asked the minister to restore water, electricity, issue tents and Ration to the victimized families immediately without any further delay.
The NC leader also demanded strict action against the officials responsible for the drive and called for the findings of the inquiry to be made public within a fixed timeframe. He urged the administration to ensure that such actions are not repeated in future without following legal procedures and humanitarian considerations.
The Honble Minister Javed Ahmad Rana ordered an inquiry into the incident and assured compensation, besides tents, food and other relief material for the displaced families.
