Justice before Statehood, Says Panun Kashmir (South)
Calls for Massive Participation in 20 July, 2026 Jantar Mantar Demonstration

Bengaluru, July 17 (Scoop News)- Panun Kashmir (South) on Thursday launched an intensive campaign in southern India to mobilize support for the nationwide demonstration scheduled at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on 20 July 2026, under the chairmanship of its Chairman Tito Ganju, asserting that the demand for justice for the displaced Kashmiri Hindu community must take precedence over the ongoing political discourse on the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing a Meet the Press at the Press Club, Bengaluru, Ravinder Gurtoo, Vice Chairman, Panun Kashmir, said that while political parties, particularly the National Conference, have once again made the restoration of statehood their principal agenda, they have consistently failed to address what he described as the genocide, ethnic cleansing and forced exodus of the Kashmiri Hindu community from the Valley.

"The nation is once again witnessing a vigorous campaign for statehood, but the question that remains unanswered is: where is justice for the victims of genocide? Before debating the restoration of political power, India must confront the historical injustice suffered by the indigenous Hindu community of Kashmir. Justice cannot remain hostage to electoral politics," Gurtoo said.

He maintained that Panun Kashmir's struggle is not directed against any democratic process but is aimed at ensuring that the voices of those who were uprooted from their ancestral homeland are neither erased nor subordinated to contemporary political negotiations. According to him, no durable political arrangement in Jammu and Kashmir can be considered complete unless it guarantees justice, security and constitutional protection for the displaced community.

Gurtoo reiterated that the organisation continues to demand formal recognition of the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus, prosecution of those responsible for crimes committed against the community, comprehensive reparative measures, and the establishment of a separate Union Territory within Kashmir with full constitutional safeguards to facilitate the honourable and secure return of displaced Kashmiri Hindus to their homeland.

Speaking on the occasion, Lenin Bhat said that the demonstration at Jantar Mantar is intended to remind the nation that the exile of Kashmiri Hindus is not merely a humanitarian issue but a profound constitutional, civilizational and human rights concern. He said that despite the passage of over three decades, the aspirations of the displaced community remain unfulfilled because successive governments have failed to adopt a victim-centric approach.

He urged members of the Kashmiri Pandit community, particularly the younger generation, to participate in large numbers and reaffirm their commitment to the struggle for justice, identity, dignity and homeland.

Vineeta Kaul said that the continued marginalisation of the concerns of displaced Kashmiri Hindus from mainstream political discourse has deepened the sense of injustice among the community. She emphasized that sustainable peace in Jammu and Kashmir cannot be achieved by overlooking the rights of those who were forced to abandon their homes under the threat of violence and terrorism.

She appealed to women, students, professionals, academicians, human rights activists and members of civil society across the country to extend solidarity to the 20 July demonstration and support the demand for justice based on constitutional principles and historical truth.

The speakers asserted that the forthcoming demonstration is not merely a protest but a democratic expression of the community's collective resolve to seek recognition, justice, accountability and restitution. They said the programme aims to remind the nation that genuine reconciliation is possible only after truth is acknowledged, justice is delivered and the legitimate political aspirations of the displaced community are addressed.

Panun Kashmir (South) appealed to media organisations, intellectuals, democratic institutions, social organisations and citizens across India to participate in and support the 20 July demonstration at Jantar Mantar, describing it as a historic call to restore justice to a community that continues to live in exile despite the passage of more than three decades. The organisation expressed confidence that the demonstration would reinforce the national discourse on the rights of internally displaced Kashmiri Hindus and strengthen the demand for a comprehensive and permanent resolution rooted in justice, constitutional safeguards and national responsibility.
