Department of Physical Education & Sports organizes Sports activities under Khelega Bharat


Srinagar, September 02 (Scoop News)-The Department of Physical Education & Sports organized a series of sports and physical activity programmes to commemorate National Sports Day, 2026 under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Seema Naz, Principal, Govt. College of Education (IASE) Srinagar.

The celebration was conducted under the nationwide campaign “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat” and the initiative “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein”, with the objective of promoting sports participation, physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and a healthy lifestyle among students. The event also emphasized the role of sports in developing leadership qualities, team spirit, sportsmanship, confidence and a positive attitude among young people. Various sports competitions and physical activity programmes were organized on the occasion, including Volleyball (Men), Badminton (Men/Women), Tug of War (Men/Women), etc.

The participating students displayed great enthusiasm and actively took part in the competitions. The matches and activities were conducted in a disciplined and sportsmanlike environment under the supervision of Desh Bandu, Director Physical Education & Sports and Daljeet Kaur, Assistant, PTI.

Students demonstrated teamwork, competitive spirit, coordination and respect for fellow participants throughout the event. The “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein” initiative was particularly significant as it encouraged students to devote meaningful time to physical activity and fitness. The fitness session conducted by Director Physical Education & sports provided an opportunity for students to engage in active exercise and reinforced the message that regular physical activity is essential for a healthy and productive life.

The National Sports Day celebration concluded successfully with active participation and enthusiasm from the students and an overall trophy was awarded to the team securing the highest overall performance across the event.

The programme not only commemorated the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary Indian hockey player, but also reinforced the importance of sports and physical activity in the overall development of students. The celebration was a successful initiative towards promoting the culture of sports, fitness and active living among the students in the spirit of “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”.
