Chief Secretary reviews Pashmina development initiatives in Ladakh

Leh, September 16 (Scoop News)- Chief Secretary, UT of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, today chaired a
meeting at the UT Secretariat to review the ongoing initiatives and activities related to the
development of the Pashmina sector in Ladakh.
The meeting reviewed the visit report of the Pashmina Cooperative Dehairing Plant and
discussed the progress regarding the proposed construction of the Pashmina Centre. The
Chief Secretary emphasised the need to strengthen the post-procurement management of raw
Pashmina wool, particularly in areas such as scientific storage, grading, processing and
quality management. He stressed the importance of developing robust systems to improve the
quality and value of Ladakh’s Pashmina products.
The meeting also discussed the product-wise sales performance and cost calculations for the
financial year 2026–27. Detailed deliberations were held on pricing strategies for different
products and customer categories, procurement mechanisms, and key observations emerging
from the assessment of the existing Pashmina value chain.
Further, the meeting deliberated on fixing the date for the proposed Pashmina auction in
Srinagar and reviewed preparations for establishing an Excellence Centre dedicated to
Pashmina development. The proposed launch of the Pashmina portal and various submissions
and proposals related to the sector were also discussed.
The Chief Secretary stressed the need for coordinated efforts among the concerned
departments and stakeholders to strengthen the Pashmina value chain, improve market
access, enhance product quality and ensure better returns for Pashmina producers and other
stakeholders in Ladakh.
The meeting was attended by Administrative Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Himanshu
Gupta; Administrative Secretary, Cooperative, Bhanu Prabha; Consultant-cum-OSD, Moses
Kunzang; Additional Secretary, Cooperative, Dr Mohammad Usman Khan; Deputy Registrar,
Cooperatives, Leh, Sachin Bali; Secretary, ACPGCMS; and other concerned officers, who
participated virtually.
