| From Textbooks to Hands-on Learning | | Middle School Skara Students Explore Science at DIET Leh STEM Lab | Leh,September 22 (Scoop News)- Students of Middle School Skara Leh visited the STEM Lab at the District Institute of Education & Training (DIET), Leh, where they participated enthusiastically in an engaging, activity-based science learning session.
The session provided students with an opportunity to move beyond the conventional classroom setting and experience science through seeing, doing, and discovering. Textbook concepts were brought to life through interesting demonstrations and activities, making learning more meaningful while fostering curiosity and a spirit of inquiry among the young learners.
The programme was conducted under the guidance and support of Principal DIET Leh, Sh. Sonam Dorjay Nampyal, and Head of Science Department, Ms. Tsering Dolma, whose encouragement continues to promote innovative, experiential, and activity-based learning initiatives at DIET Leh.
Various experiments were demonstrated by Ms. Chetna Sharma and Ms. Kunzes Dolma, Senior Lecturers, who explained scientific concepts in a simple, interactive, and enjoyable manner. They not only connected textbook knowledge with real-life applications but also encouraged students to ask questions, think critically, and explore scientific ideas beyond the classroom. Their engaging style of teaching, combined with practical demonstrations, helped demystify complex concepts and made science approachable for young learners. By fostering curiosity and confidence, they inspired students to view science as a subject of discovery rather than rote learning.
Students participated actively in the demonstrations, exploring how scientific principles studied in classrooms work in real-life situations. The hands-on approach made learning enjoyable and encouraged students to observe, question, explore, and think scientifically.
Ms. Tsering Angmo, Lab Assistant, guided the students in familiarising themselves with laboratory apparatus and equipment, explaining their names, uses, and basic handling. Sh. Jigmet Namgyal, Media & Technical Assistant, provided technical and media support, ensuring smooth conduct and documentation of the session.
The programme concluded with refreshments, adding warmth and enjoyment to the learning experience. Teachers and students expressed their appreciation, describing the visit as interesting, engaging, and enriching. The enthusiasm displayed by the students reflected their keen interest in exploring science through practical and experiential learning.
The visit concluded on a positive note, inspiring young learners to continue questioning, experimenting, and discovering the wonders of science.
