BJP J&K Spokespersons Commemorate Jammu Kashmir Diwas
Pay Tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji and Heroes of 1947

Jammu, October 26 (Scoop News)-On the occasion of Jammu Kashmir Diwas, spokespersons of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jammu & Kashmir Unit, held a meeting to commemorate the historic signing of the Instrument of Accession by Maharaja Hari Singh Ji on October 26, 1947, and to pay tribute to the visionary leadership, courage and sacrifices that helped secure Jammu & Kashmir’s accession to India.

The spokespersons expressed their profound gratitude to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji for taking the historic decision to accede Jammu & Kashmir to the Dominion of India at a critical juncture in the history of the subcontinent. They observed that this momentous decision laid the constitutional foundation for Jammu & Kashmir’s relationship with India and marked a defining chapter in the region’s modern history.

The spokespersons emphasised that Jammu & Kashmir is not merely a geographical entity but an inseparable part of Bharat’s civilisational heritage, enriched by thousands of years of spiritual, cultural, philosophical and intellectual traditions. From its ancient centres of learning to its diverse cultural traditions, the region has made an enduring contribution to the civilisational evolution of Bharat.

They also acknowledged the contribution of India’s national leadership, particularly Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, whose determination and commitment to national unity played a significant role in consolidating the country during the challenging period following Independence. They recalled that the accession of Jammu & Kashmir took place amid extraordinary political uncertainty, communal violence and external aggression, demanding decisive action and unwavering commitment to the country’s territorial integrity.

The spokespersons strongly condemned the Pakistani invasion of October 1947, which brought widespread violence, destruction and immense suffering to the people of Jammu & Kashmir. They recalled the atrocities committed by the invading forces in areas including Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimber, Bagh, Plandri and Baramulla. Innocent civilians were subjected to killings, displacement and other grave abuses, leaving painful memories that continue to shape the collective consciousness of the region.

Paying homage to the brave soldiers and patriots who defended Jammu & Kashmir against the aggression, the spokespersons particularly remembered Brigadier Rajinder Singh, whose courageous resistance helped delay the advancing invaders, and Major Somnath Sharma, who laid down his life while defending Srinagar and was posthumously awarded India’s first Param Vir Chakra. They also saluted the countless members of the armed forces and the civilians whose courage, sacrifice and determination helped protect the region during those difficult days. Special mention was made for Mohd Maqbool Sherwani and Pushkar Nath Zadoo who laid down their lives during effort to slow down the march of the invading army.

The spokespersons stated that remembering Jammu Kashmir Diwas must go beyond commemorating a historical event. It must also serve as a solemn reminder of the need to preserve national unity, uphold constitutional values, honour the sacrifices of the people and ensure peace, security, prosperity and equitable development across the Union Territory.

They reiterated the BJP’s commitment to working for the welfare of all sections of society, irrespective of region, religion or community, and stressed the importance of strengthening infrastructure, improving public services, generating employment opportunities, promoting tourism and ensuring that the benefits of development reach people in every part of Jammu & Kashmir, including remote, border and hilly areas.

The spokespersons also expressed concern over the continuing plight of people living in territories of Jammu & Kashmir under Pakistan’s illegal occupation. They condemned the denial of democratic freedoms and the reported human-rights abuses in those areas, and called for the rights, dignity and aspirations of their residents to receive due international attention. They reiterated India’s longstanding position that the territories under Pakistan’s illegal occupation remain an integral part of India and expressed hope for their eventual reintegration through peaceful and constitutional means.

The meeting concluded with the spokespersons renewing their pledge to uphold the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of India; honour the legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji and the sacrifices of the defenders of Jammu & Kashmir; and work towards a peaceful, secure, prosperous and developed Jammu & Kashmir.

Jammu Kashmir Diwas is a reminder of a historic decision, the courage of those who defended the land, and the enduring responsibility to safeguard the unity, dignity and future of its people.
