Omar reduced to a figurehead, engaged in survival: Baig

Srinagar, May 14(Scoop News) –Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senior leader and former deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig today criticized the government for trying to reverse the process of equitable development that was started by the PDP- Congress coalition in very difficult and trying circumstances. He said even though militancy had now almost completely been stamped out, the govt had failed to build on the initiatives taken by the previous government. Not to speak of new initiatives or schemes the present government had shelved even the on going schemes as part of its political vendata and inefficiency.
Addressing a workers meeting at Gulgam in Kupwara district today Baig said while the Chief Minister himself had been reduced to a figure head engaged in a permanent fight for survival, the ministers had zeroed in on their own welfare, their families and their agents in their constituencies. There was a brazen loot going on of the huge funds that are received by the government from various sources. The schemes like MNREGA which could have transformed the rural areas are being misused by the ruling politicians to line their own pockets”, he said.
Referring to the problems of Kupwara district Baig said even though the previous government had initiated many special schemes for this backward district like RSVY and BRGF besides taking initiatives for promotion of tourism the present government has only been using them to benefit their favourite contractors and party loyalists. He said the poor implementation of these schemes has resulted in the sad fact that Kupwara continues to be one of the poorest and most backward district in the state.
