Corruption, bad governance leading J&K to anarchy:Mufti
Srinagar, May 15(Scoop News) –Calling for an all out war against corruption in the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said the present dispensation had degenerated into a coalition of the vested interest that had institutionalized loot at the highest level. “The inefficient functioning of the NC led government had assumed dangerous dimensions with every public service and resource being sold for a price” he told a convention of party workers at Langate in Kupwara district. People would have to rise against this open loot and stop the state from slipping into a completely ungovernable territory, he added.
On this occasion District president and MLA Ab Haq Khan, Senior leader Sofi Gh Mohiudin, Mohd Sultan Pandithpuri, Adv Mahrajkrishan Pandita , Irfan Sultan Pandithpuri, Adv Nazir Ahmed Lone, Adv Mohd Amin, Mohd Shafi Dar , Peerzada Ab Majeed, Adv Gh Nabi Bukhari, Gh Mohd Mir, Gh Nabi Pandithpuri, Mohd Shafi Dar, Ali Mohd Malla and Haji Bashir Ahmed Khan were also present.
Mufti said inefficiency, atrocities, nepotism, favoritism and corruption flourished under all NC dispensations but the present coalition was taking the state into an unprecedented administrative anarchy which had the potential of deepening the alienation. He said there was no denying the fact that a sentiment of disaffection and alienation always existed in the state which needed a broadminded political approach to address but bad governance has historically provided the trigger to trouble. To prevent another outburst of public anger it was necessary that the coalition put its act together but he said it seems beyond its capacity to mend things as with waning public support every constituent of it was out only to make personal fortunes.
Taking on the government for its use of wanton force to quell peaceful protests against wrong policies and corrupt practices, Mufti said the only response from the government to issues of public importance was trying to silence voices of dissent through force. Nobody seems to be satisfied with government he said pointing to the daily demonstrations by almost all sections of society. “The fact that of late there have not been deaths on the streets as a result of police firing is being touted as an achievement, while all methods including brute force and framing of false cases are resorted to in order to enforce silence” he said. He said instead of declaring a war on the people it was better for the government to ensure justice, good governance and a corruption free administration.
Mufti said the state government actually exposed its bankruptcy of thought and lack of vision by touting patchwork on roads as development and removal of a security bunker as an earthshaking event. The problem with this government he said was its inability to think in terms of people’s welfare in a macro sense. He said it was unfortunate for the state that this government had not been able to benefit from external resources like Asian Development Bank funds arranged by PDP led government fully and neither had it been able to implement centrally sponsored schemes which have changed the face of other states. The reason for the state to miss the bus was the present government’s preoccupation with dirty tricks against political rivals and making money.
