JKBJP Mahila Morcha protests against unscheduled power cuts
Jammu, May 15 (Scoop News) – Hundreds of BJP Mahila Morcha activists, led by their State President Sakina Bano, took out a march from party headquarters and reached Parade, where a massive protest demonstration was held in front of the office of Power Development Department (PDD). They were carrying party flags and raising slogans against the department for imposing long power cuts in Jammu.

Sakina Bano, while addressing the Mahila Morcha activists at Parade, said that the PDD has been harassing the consumers of Jammu by imposing 5-8 hours cuts of electricity in different areas of Jammu in these days when the temperature is going up. She said that the same dapartment provides regular electricity to Chief Minister, his ministerial colleagues and bureacrats. When the Secretariat is in Jammu the government quarters housing the move employees get 24 hour uninterrupted suply of electricity and with the darbar move, PDD adopts an anti-consumer approach and imposes curtailment of electricity beyond the scheduled cuts. She said that the ministers and bureaucrats have been given special lines for the uninterrupted supply of electricity. For them there is no shortage of electricity but the common consumers are made to suffer. It seems that the PDD is working for the comfort of just few VIPs and has least concern for the needs of people. The department has failed to discharge its duties in an impartial manner. Without supplying regular electricity, PDD enhances the tariff in a dictatorial manner. She declared that the morcha activists will keep organising protests against PDD till regular supply of electricity is not ensured.
Mahila Morcha State General Secretary Priya Sethi said that with the start of new academic sessions in schools, the studies of students are getting badly affected. These students remain in schools during day time and in evenings majority of them go for private tutions. They get time to revise and complete their home work at night only but the power cuts imposed during these hours are proving harmful for them. She said that besides students, the housewives too suffer a lot due to power cuts. Same is the situation with patients, old aged people and small kids, she added.
