Good roads enhance economic activities: Omar
Reviews development of Ganderbal, inspects works


Ganderbal /Srinagar, May 15(Scoop News) –Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Tuesday reviewed the progress of works under roads and bridges sector in Ganderbal Constituency at a meeting of officers here.
The Chief Minister received appraisal of PMGSY schemes, construction of roads and bridges in R&B sector and projects being executed by Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) in Ganderbal Constituency.
It was given out in the meeting that under PMGSY 19 projects have been taken up for execution in Ganderbal at an estimated cost of over Rs. 29 crores. It was stated that 9 projects have been completed involving over Rs. 17 crores. This has benefited 10 habitations by constructing 40 kilometres of new roads. During the current year about over 8 kilometres of roads are being added to benefit another 6 habitations.
While reviewing the status of R&B, the Chief Minister was informed that 4 bridges under NABARD are under execution in Ganderbal at a cost of Rs. 5.17 crores. An expenditure of about Rs. 4.78 crores has been made on the construction of these bridges by the end of April 2012. It was further stated that under the State sector 4 more bridges involving about Rs. 22.23 crores are also being constructed in Ganderbal on which Rs. 6.20 crores have been spent so far.
The Chief Minister was told that the 12 road schemes estimating about Rs. 36.97 crores are also in progress in Ganderbal. An amount of Rs. 23.64 crores have been spent on these roads so far and 5 roads stand completed. It was stated that 2 more roads under district sector are also being constructed in Ganderbal constituency at a cost of Rs. 2.25 crores.
The meeting was told that of the 50 road schemes taken up under State sector at a cost of Rs. 15.25 crores, 21 roads involving Rs. 3 crores have been completed so far. It was stated that under CRF one major road project at an estimated cost of Rs. 15.56 crores is also under execution in the constituency while one road project involving Rs. 50 lakhs have been completed under 13th Finance Commission Award. Besides, 6 roads involving Rs. 10.73 crores are also under execution under projectization in Ganderbal.
Omar Abdullah also received details of 8 projects being executed by JKPCC at Ganderbal at a cost of Rs. 120.63 crore. These projects include 200-bedded District Hospital, Bridge at Guzhama and Physical Education College Gadoora.
Underlining the importance of better road connectivity and linking of remote areas with main highways important ingredient for socio-economic upliftment of people, the Chief Minister asked the concerned departments to ensure timely completion of works and judicious expenditure of funds. He said the development of areas is directly related to the better road connectivity. “Good roads enhance economic activities and make areas accessible to all round development”, he added.
The Chief Minister inspected progress of work of Cheki Yongoora- Baba Saleh road being constructed under PMGSY at a cost of Rs. 1.66 crores. He also inspected the construction of District Hospital being executed by JKPCC at a cost of Rs. 52.56 crores. Omar Abdullah also inspected construction of bridge at Arampora and Dak Bungalow at Fatehpora being executed by the R&B Department.
The District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal, Showkat Ahmad Mir, gave details of various schemes and presented the resume of status of work on various projects. While Chief Engineer R&B, Chief Engineer PMGSY, Managing Director JKPCC and other officers were present in the meeting.
The Chief Minister later met various deputations and interacted with the National Conference party workers and local leadership.
