DUJ organizing a rally in solidarity with Sakshi on May 25

New Delhi,May 24 (Scoop News) –Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) is going to organize a rally in solidarity with Sakshi journalists, numbering around 3300 and non-journalists around 3800, transporters 100 and delivery boys 26,000, on Friday 25th May at 10.30am outside Jantar Mantar,New Delhi.


SK. Pande,General Secretary said in a statement that Journalists from Andhra Pradesh will also be coming to participate. Extending their solidarity to agitation of journalists belonging to Sakshi newspaper and TV channel, who are demanding defreezing of bank accounts by the CBI,
Pande said that some of the decisions taken by the Executive and Media Center in the meeting on 19th May to fight increasing attacks on press freedom, from both press barons and the Government. The meeting took note of the cartoon controversy and West Bengal Chief Minister’s attacks on freedom of expression and press persons.

He said that The DUJ took also note of the situation in the Press Council and the lack of All India Media Commission looking into the entire media, since the neo liberal policies. It categorically called for a Media Council of India to replace the present Press Council and the constitution of a Media Commission of experts like the 1st and 2nd Press Commission by an Act of Parliament.

The DUJ also took stern note of the attempts to censor the net and to throttle freedom of press by blacking out labour news and that of the down trodden and replacing it with trivia.


Pande said that it also decided to hold its own probe by a body of experts to look into all aspects of the Kazmi case in view of the fact that he would soon be completing three months in jail amidst reports of international pressures to keep him in prison.

He said that a special committee to celebrate Manto and his times, two years of the media centre trust, and to strengthen the press unity centre in Delhi was finalized.

An expanded action committee on the save wage board and save working journalist act front was finalized. Cases of victimization and unfair labour practices were discussed,Pande said.
