Justice Kumar take oath as Chief Justice of JK High Court
Srinagar, June 08 (Scoop News) –N. N. Vohra, Governor, administered the oath of office to Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar, as Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, at the Oath Ceremony held at SKICC, here this evening.

The Warrant and Notification of Appointment of Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar, as Chief Justice of the J&K High Court, was read out by the Registrar General of the High Court.

After administering the Oath, the Governor congratulated Justice Kumar and wished him a very successful tenure as Chief Justice of the State High Court.

Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Ministers, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Judges of the High Court, Chief Secretary, Acting Director General of Police, Advocates, senior Civil, Judicial and Police officers and family members of Justice Kumar were among those present at the Oath Ceremony.

Justice Kumar, B. A, LL. B. (Punjabi University, Patiala), LL. M. (Birmingham), was born on January 5, 1953. He was enrolled as an Advocate on December 22, 1977. During 1977-79, he practised in Sangrur and also practised in the High Court in Constitutional, Service, Labour, Civil, Cooperative and Banking cases. He worked as Additional Advocate General, Punjab from October 1995 to November 1996. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 2, 2001 and a Permanent Judge on November 9, 2001.

The Ceremony began with Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, seeking the permission of the Governor for the commencement of the function, which had to be relocated at SKICC at the last minute, due to continuing heavy rain almost through the day.
