| ‘Mehbooba says Party open for all dedicated people | |  Srinagar, October 13(Scoop News) - Convinced by the pro people policies of the party, former General Secretary Youth Congress and noted social activist, Dr Harbaksh Singh (Dr Shunty) today joined Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pledging to work for the betterment of people of the state.
Extending a warm welcome to Dr Shunty, Mehbooba termed his joining the party as continuation of a positive trend that augured well for the future of the sate and its politics. She said it was heartening that dedicated professionals like Dr Shunty who have made significant contribution through clean politics and social work in public life have shown their liking for the PDP agenda and are joining the party.
She said the people like Dr Shunty will find right forum in PDP to carry on their mission for a clean public life and empowerment of a common citizen. Mehbooba said that PDP is a movement to change fate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Policies and programmes of PDP are formulated by accommodating wishes and aspirations of all sections of the society,” she said, while welcoming the new entrant.
On this occasion, Dr Shunty expressed his commitment to the agenda and policies of PDP which include strong measures for establishing a fair, transparent and accountable system of governance and foolproof institutional accountability in the state. He said during its tenure the PDP led regime had proved its capability of changing life of the common masses by treating all individual equally and providing equal opportunities to all sections of the society. “During PDP tenure the party created consciousness about fair and transparent governance among the people of Jammu and Kashmir by providing a clean and pro-people administration,” he said.
“With the result, people have now become wary by the functioning of the present dispensation as the government has failed to provide even basic amenities to the common people,” Dr Shunty observed. Referring to various schemes which were launched by the PDP Dr Shunty said it was the transparency and accountability in recruitment process of more than 70,000 youth who were appointed as teachers under Rebar-e-Taleem (ReT) scheme and more than 30,000 Anganwari workers that became one of the convincing factor for his joining the party.
“Not a single case of favoritism or nepotism was reported during PDP tenure because appointments were made with complete transparency and accountability to ensure that only deserving people would get jobs. Not only this, but there was no political or developmental inertia during PDP’s time which is unfortunately being witnessed at present,” Dr Shunty remarked.
Dr Shunty who hails from Shikargah, Tral, has worked as Provincial President Kashmir for National Students Union of India (NSUI), State Coordinator Aaam Admi Ka Sipahi (AAKS)—the Rahul Gandhi sponsored non governmental organisaton within Congress.
Presently he is General Secretary of Guru Hargobind Charitable Trust—a non governmental organisation working for the welfare of downtrodden and destitute.
