Geelani provoking & communalizing proposed Shri Amarnathji road : Ashwani

Jammu, October 20 (Scoop News)- Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir expresses its serious concern and disgust over the reported statement of Syed Ali Shah Geelani threatening agitation against the decision to construct a concrete road up to the holy Amarnath cave shrine. The reported reasons given by the secessionist leader are both ludicrous and vicious in nature.
.
Addressing a Press conference in Jammu Ashwani Kumar said that the statement of Geelani has the potential to provoke and communalize the people of Kashmir and recreate the atmosphere of Amarnath agitation days. Under these circumstances, the reported move of secessionist leaders to visit Pakistan, and the government’s acquiescence to the same is fraught with dangerous consequences. The government needs to clarify its policy on the subject keeping in view the importance of the matter

He told press that the opposition to the move of providing facilities to the Amarnath pilgrims smacks of a clear communal and sectarian mind-set. He said that Amaranth pilgrims have been suffering unusually high causalities due to lack of appropriate facilities enroute. The objections relating to ‘environmental degradation etc.’ were never raised in case of Mughal Road and Sinthan Road where thousands of trees had to be cut. In the case of Amarnath shrine, objections are being raised hurting the sentiments of the Hindu society including the indigenous Pandits of Kashmir. Virender Raina, National Spokesperson said that the relief and economic rehabilitation of the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community is the primary responsibility of the State and the Central government. The state government has given a constant feeling to the displaced population that it is non-serious regarding the issues of the community. The relief holders have been driven to destitution due to the callous attitude of the government regarding the enhancement of the relief. The decision to increase the relief, having already been taken by the state cabinet, is again put at the mercy of “bureaucratic rigmarole” before the Central government. The victimized community of Pandits strongly feels that the powers that be are hostile to their interests in their own state. It has taken two decades for the PM’s employment package to see the light of the day and that too with ‘conditionalities’ driving the community youth to leave the state. Majority of the community youth have become overage as they have been deprived of any employment so far. The Kashmiri Pandit community has equal right over the opportunities and resources in the state but it has been successively ignored in the matters of employment and proper economic rehabilitation. Panun Kashmir demands an immediate increase in relief for the relief holders and also an equal and proportionate representation to the Pandits in the distribution of state resources and overall employment opportunities.
