Leh, November 02 (Scoop News) - The Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council,Leh Rigzin Spalbar in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Man Mohan Singh took up the case of capping on subsidized domestic LPG cylinders and sought PM’s intervention for increasing the subsidized cylinders from 6 to 12 per family per year in Ladakh keeping in view the region’s multifarious constraints.

Giving justification in this matter, Spalbar underlined Ladakh’s arctic climatic conditions with the entire area remaining under sub zero temperature for major part of the year resulting in greater consumption of LPG compared to any other part of the country. The CEC also apprised the Prime Minister that unlike other Himalayan region, the cold arid desert of Ladakh is completely devoid of forest cover and the resultant extreme scarcity of bio fuel will further aggravate the situation with people already reeling under lots of economic hardship.

The CEC also added that the people all through the region feel highly dejected and alienated and chaotic situation prevail all through with people registering their resentments urging for review the decisions of the government in context with the exceptional local conditions prevailing in the region.

Mr. Spalbar through his letter further said that it is sheer injustice for the people of this difficult region to equate with the rest part of the country and strongly urged the PM to have his intervention to ensure allocation of 12 subsidized LPG cylinders to per family annually in Ladakh.
