JK Minister lauds the efforts of Gandhi Memorial College of Education
Jammu, November 08 (Scoop News) –Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment Abdul Gani Malik has complimented the role played by the private educational institutions/educational societies in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in raising the state of the art infrastructure,imparting quality education and offering employability opportunities to the students of all three regions.

He lauded the efforts of Gandhi Memorial College of Education Jammu and labeled the management of the Hindu Education Society Kashmir (HESK) as 'brand ambassadors' in the field of education.

The Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik was addressing the august house after inaugurating the two day National Workshop on the 'Role of Academic Counselors in ODL System'.

The workshop was organized by the Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir in collaboration with Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Raipur,, Bantalab.


Minister for Higher Education Labour and Employment Abdul Gani Malik was the chief guest during the inaugural session and Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Talat Ahmad was present as guest of honour.

In his presidential address the Minister for Higher Education also underscored the need to design more and more short term capsule courses to train the counsellors and resource persons to tap the potential of the ODL system. He assured all possible help from the state government to all those private institutions who are looking forward to introduce new courses to expand the scope of distance education. He said the state government has already constituted a high level committee to study and introduce new courses in the curriculum.

The chief guest also appreciated the efforts made by the Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Jammu to make this workshop a grand success and extended good wishes to the Directorate of Distance education ,University of Kashmir and HESK for providing a stimulating platform to all the experts to share their knowledge base with the faculty.

Dr Talat Ahmed,Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir in his address appreciated the strong collaboration between University of Kashmir and Hindu Education Society, Kashmir, he also added by saying “Societies can develop only through education. We have to bring out and identify the issues in the field of education which are being ignore since long and assured that University of Kashmir will continue to collaborate with HESK in the field of educational development

Dr. Nilofar Khan, Director, Directorate of Distance Education briefly presented the profile of DDE highlighting the working and the different courses offered by the Department in the field of education. She added that the students are now a days adopting the policy of earning while learning, so there is a need to provide them the opportunity to grow and enhance their scope of education. There is a demand for increasing the enrollment of the students in the different areas of J&K including Ladakh. She also thanked Minister for Higher Education and Vice Chancellor of University for providing necessary support and guidance for the promotion of ODL and conducting extension programs, workshops, seminars and training programs in the field of education through distance learning.

Before the inaugural session Anil Dhar, President, HESK formally welcomed and felicitated Minister for Higher Education and Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir.

President,HESK, Anil Dhar in his welcome address said the Gandhi Memorial College of Education is a torch bearer in the field of education in the private sector. He also thanked Dr. Nilofar Khan for giving an opportunity to the college for bridging the gap between the University of Kashmir and its affiliated college at Jammu. He also assured them to be there for organizing such program in near future.

Prof. Biswas, the expert from STRIDE IGNOU also gave a brief introduction about the workshop.
