‘World Diabetes Day’ observed in JK
Jammu, November 10 (Scoop News) –On the eve of “World Diabetes Day” to be observed on 14 November, a Diabetes awarness programme was held here today at Govt. Higher Secondary School (Migrant), Muthi Camp, where renowned Diabetologist, National Professor of Diabetes & National Chairman Scientific Committee (RSSDI), Dr. Jitendra Singh was the Chief Guest. The programme was organized by Pir Panchal, a social organization, under the supervision of its President, Ramesh Hangloo.
In a highly educative lecturer to a large gathering of students drawn from different classes and age groups, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that current theme of diabetes awareness is life style because however much the new inventions and discoveries in management and control of diabetes may be effective, the basic “Mantra” for successful control of diabetes is a life style based on regulated daily routine, balanced timely diet schedule, adequate level of physical activity and freedom from stress.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said “World Diabetes Day” is an occasion for each one of use, whether a medical professional or a social activist, to rededicate ourselves to the cause of controlling rapid spread of epidemic of diabetes in India which is going to pose a huge economic burden for the nation in the times to come. He complimented “Pir Panchal” for regularly observing “World Diabetes Day” since the last nearly 20 years when even the government agencies were not observing it.
Dr. Jitendra Singh also explained why the date of November 14 was chosen as “world Diabetes Day” and elaborated that this was the date of birth of Dr. Bantings, one of the co-discoverers of Insulin which was the first breakthough for treatment of diabetes at a time when no anti-diabetic medicine was available. This was also the date when over 90 years ago, the discovery of Insulin was made public to the world.
Ramesh Hangloo presented a resume of diverse activities of Pir Panchal in last few years.
Led by Dr. Jitendra Singh, a team of doctors comprising Dr. Sandeep Dhar, Dr. Pankaj and others examined the patients and provided free medicines. Rajeev Sharma and his team conducted free blood tests for sugar and other parameters.
Others present on the occasion included Principal of the School Dr. A.K. Razdan, Social activist Balbir Ram Rattan, School Head Master Ramesh Bhat and Pir Panchal Secretary K.K. Koul.
