Prestigious SaMaPa Awards 2012 announced
Shanno Khurana, Manilal Nag, Kailash Mehra & Sahaya Ranjit get major awards

New Delhi/Jammu, November 15 (Scoop News) – SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) has announced the name of the recipients of this year’s SaMaPa awards, the exclusive national level honours pertaining to Kashmir. The prestigious ‘SaMaPa Kala Vardhan Samman’ is being conferred upon, the Governor of Assam, Janaki Ballav Patnaik. The prestigious ‘SaMaPa Vitasta Award’, which carries cash honour of Rs. 50,000 each, is being conferred upon Vidushi Shanno Khurana and Pandit Manilal Nag. The prestigious ‘SaMaPa Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah Award’, which carries cash honour of Rs. 25,000, is being conferred upon the veteran singer of J&K Prof. Kailash Mehra Sadhu. S. Sahaya Ranjit is being honoured with the ‘SaMaPa Acharya Abhinavgupt Samman’, which carries cash honour of Rs. 11,000. Ritesh Mishra & Rajnish Mishra, the young vocalists are being awarded the ‘SaMaPa Yuva Ratan Samman’ which carries cash award of Rs. 11,000 each.

The ‘SaMaPa Kala Vardhan Samman’ has been instituted to honour those eminent personalities, cultural philanthropists and visionaries who go beyond the conventional areas of working to promote the art and culture of the country. This year the Samman is being conferred upon the famous and highly respected politician and social worker of the country, and a scholar and writer of eminence, His Excellency, the Governor of Assam, Janaki Ballav Patnaik for enormous contribution towards the growth, development and promotion of the art, culture and languages of the country.

Vidushi Shanno Khurana is being honoured for her lifetime contribution in the field of Hindustani Classical Music, Vocal (Delhi) and Pandit Manilal Nag is being honoured for his lifetime contribution in the field of Hindustani Classical Music, Sitar (Kolkata) with the prestigious ‘SaMaPa Vitasta Award’. Prof. Kailash Mehra Sadhu is being awarded the ‘SaMaPa Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah Award’ for her lifetime dedication and contribution as a singer in the field of Kashmiri and Dogri Music (Jammu & Kashmir). Shri S. Sahaya Ranjit will receive the ‘SaMaPa Acharya Abhinavgupt Samman’ for his contribution to the field of music as a music critic and journalist (Delhi). This year SaMaPa is introducing another award to recognize and encourage young musicians of the country. The award is being conferred upon Shri Ritesh & Rajnish Mishra in recognition of their achievements in the field of Hindustani Classical Music, Vocal (Delhi).

The award announcement was made by SaMaPa in New Delhi declaring that the names were selected by Pandit Bhajan Sopori, the Great Music Legend and Chairman of SaMaPa, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Minister for New and Renewable Energy, veteran singer Shameem Azad, eminent music critic and musicologist Pt. Vijay Shankar Mishra and other committee members. The awards will be presented on the occasion of 8th Annual ‘SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan 2012’ in New Delhi at Kamani Auditorium, Copernicus Marg on the 24th and 25th of November 2012 as part of the SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan, which is acclaimed as the top most music festival of Delhi and one of the most prestigious festivals of the country. The festival will feature a mix of various young generation musicians like Sufi diva Ragini Rainu, Santoor Maestro & Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori, vocalists Ritesh Mishra, Rajnish Mishra, Parthapratim Das, Ram Shankar, Shailendra Goswami and others including senior and legendary musicians like Vidushi Shanno Khurana (vocal), Pt. Manilal Nag (Sitar), Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan (Sitar), Pt. Brij Narayan (Sarod) and Vidushi Geeta Chandran (Dance).

SaMaPa is more than an academy and is a cultural movement credited to have brought a Cultural Revolution and to have created a new generation of music connoisseurs. SaMaPa has presented various pioneering & path breaking festivals, programmes & productions in the last 7 years and has various firsts to its credit. SaMaPa has been awarded the ‘J&K Dogri Award, 2008’ by the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, and has also received ‘The RX Club Award of Excellence, 2009’.
