| Islamic University holds seminar on Life of Imam Hussain (RA) | | Follow Imam’s footsteps: VC urges students | 
Awantipora/Srinagar,November 16 (Scoop News) – Islamic University of Science and Technology(IUST) Friday held a day-long seminar to highlight the role and contribution of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) towards building human values and virtues.
Titled ‘Contribution of Iman Hussain in Building Human Values,’ the seminar was organized by Debate and Seminar wing in collaboration with the students union of IUST.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor IUST, Professor A R Trag said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) is a pioneering example of courage, righteousness and steadfastness. “By sacrificing his life, Hazrat Imam Hussian (RA) upheld the true meaning of Islam. He showed to all that it was better to lay down one’s life than to budge before tyranny, injustice and falsehood. He introduced a new phase into the Islamic history,” Trag said in his Presidential address.
He said that Hazrat Imam Hussian’s upbringing played up a major role in framing him as one of the pious followers in Islamic history. “He was brought up in the pious company of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The guidance which Imam Hussain (RA) received throughout was the reason that he proved to be an exemplary figure with utmost virtues and qualities. In fact, he infused a new spirit into the humanity,” the VC said.
“The sacrifice made by Imam Hussain (RA) sends the message that we should be up-front in helping the humanity, ” he added.
The VC urged the students to follow the footsteps of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in every sphere of life. “The way Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) spent his life teaches us that we should always leave individual differences aside and should work together towards helping, the poor, the needy, the widows, orphans and should also contribute towards building a prosperous society,” he added.
Trag highlighted the importance of 10th of Muharram saying that many important and landmark events have occurred on this day. “ 10th of Muharram marks the birth of Prophet Ibrahim (AS),Hazrat Sulieman (AS) was given the kingdom, Hazrat Younis (AS) was rescued from the well and many other important events took place on this day. The martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussian (RA) occurred on the same day so it has great significance for us,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Registrar IUST, Prof Abdul Gani Rather said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) remained firm on the fundamental teachings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). “Imam Hussain (RA) was a true reflection of ideals of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and inherited all the qualities of the beloved messenger of Allah,” he said.
“Imam Hussain (RA) was a person with great consciousness, truthfulness and determination. He was an example of courage and proved to be an icon that left a mark on the history,” he added.
Rather, who was the guest of honour, said Imam Hussain’s sacrifice teaches that Muslims should be obedient to Allah, should pray regularly and should be courageous in all the matters they face.
Chief librarian Prof Wajih Alvi, in his speech, stressed on unity among the various sects of Muslims.
Head, Department of Arabic, Dr Abdul Majeed Andrabi, Dean School of Technology, Prof KKS Jamwal and In-charge Head of department of Islamic Studies, Dr Showkat Hussain also spoke on the occasion.
The students from various departments also participated in the seminar and were awarded later on. Shafaqat Hassan of B.Tech Civil Engineering, Asima Andrabi of B.Tech Civil Engineering and Karaar Hussain of B.Tech Electronics and Communications were adjudged first, second and third respectively.
