Naval Wing NCC brings laurels to State
Wins 13 gold medals in All India Nau Sainik competition
Jammu, November 16 (Scoop News) – A contingent of Naval Wing Cadets of NCC Directorate, J&K participated in All India Nau Sainik competition held at Visakhapatnam, where they competed with sixteen NCC Directorates.

The J&K Naval Contingent comprised of 20 boys and 10 girl cadets from Government Degree College, Kathua, GDC Samba, MAM College Jammu, SPMR College Jammu, GCW Gandhinagar, GDC Doda, Amar Singh College and Islamia College from Srinagar.

The contingent was led by Lt (Dr) Professor Manohar Lal, ANO of Government Degree College Samba.

The contingent underwent a tailored training schedule to achieve the required standards to compete at the national level.

The training was undertaken with an aim of achieving the desired standards in waterman-ship activities which include Boat Pulling, Swimming, Ship Modeling, Drill, Semaphore, Naval academics, firing and cultural aspects.

The schedule entailed institution training, camps and sailing expedition. The cadets were taken to Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh and trained in sailing and pulling in the Gobind Sagar Lake for a distance of 450 kms over a period of 10-days. Non swimmers were taught swimming at Army Swimming Pool, Nagrota. A fully trained contingent participated in National level competition and receive accolades for their performance. The contingent was adjudged as the best contingent and awarded Gold Medal and a Rolling Trophy. The Boys Boat Pulling and Boys Ship Modeling team of the contingent won the Bronze medals. The contingent bagged total of 13 gold, 11 bronze medals and a rolling trophy.

Maj Gen N S Jamwal, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate, J&K felicitated the cadets for their excellent performance. In his addressed, Jamwal said that considering the limitation of water bodies in the state for conducting such training, the performance of the contingent has been commendable. He said this has been possible because of vigorous training and hard work of the cadets. He advised the cadets to do well in their academics also and make the best use of the experiences gained in these competitions.

As a part of expansion of NCC in J&K another Naval unit is being raised in Jammu to provide additional naval facilities to cadets of Jammu division.

The Naval wing also intends revising the training schedule to utilize the existing water bodies in state to optimum levels and enhancing the proficiency of the cadets in waterman-ship activities.
