| Kashmir Valley experiences fresh snowfall | | Medium danger avalanche warning for higher reaches |
Srinagar, December 28 (Scoop News) –The northern districts of Valley experienced fresh snowfall due to which Divisional Disaster Management Authority Kashmir has issued Medium-danger avalanche warning for avalanche prone areas of Chowkibal, Tangdhar, Keran, MachIl, Gurez, Tuleil, Sonamarg, Drass and higher reaches of Gulmarg and Uri Sectors on the basis of information from SASE.
According to Aamir Ali,Coordinator,Disaster Management,Kashmir People living in higher reaches of these areas have been advised not to venture in avalanche prone areas, during the next 24 hours. People living in these snow bound areas are advised to keep cleaning the snow from roof top of their houses to avoid any causality due to roof collapse.
Fresh snowfall of 7 to 8 inches was recorded in tourist resort of Gulmarg, bringing cheer to the tourists and locals. Snow clearance operation was started in the night by Chief Engineer Mechancial Engineering Deptt. Gulmarg-Tangmarg road was cleared for movement of traffic. Inner roads of Gulmarg, Hotel links and parking were also cleared. Tangmarg recorded 2’’ to 3’’, Tangmarg- Narbal was cleared by MED upto Drooru, Tangmarg- Babareshi and Tangmarg-Pattan roads were also cleared. Rafiabad recorded 5’’ to 9’’. Baramulla-Tragpora-Shatloo-Rohama-Panzla roads was cleared of snow. Panzla-Shalkote and Panzla-Ladoo roads were under clearance till last reports. Higher reaches of Baramulla Kandi and Sheeri recorded 4’’ to 7’’. Baramulla-Baba Reshi road was cleared and Sheeri-Malpora-Dangarpora road was in progress.
Gurez experienced fresh snowfall of 20’’ to 24’’. The snow clearance operation was in progress, despite continous snowfall. Kupwara and Handwara got 2’’ to 3’’, Lolab, Khurhama,Vilgam, Kralpora experienced 5’’ to 7’’. Roads from Kupwara to Vavoora, Kupwara-Handwara and Magam were cleared with snow clearance machines. Vavoora-Khurhaama, Vavoora-Sogam and Magam-Vilgam-Kralpora-Dadriyal roads were in progress. Kullen Rezan in Ganderbal District got 8’’ to 9’’, Sonmarg around 15 inches, Kullen Rezan road was cleared and clearance was under progress on Sumbal Ganiwan road. The Srinagar-Jammu NHW was open for one way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar. 15 flights operated normally with no cancellations.
