IG traffic issue advisory for road users
Black films, tinted glasses, curtains on vehicles already banned
Jammu, December 31 (Scoop News) –In connection with observing “Road Safety Week” from 1st January, 2013 in the State, the Inspector General of Police, Traffic, Munir Ahmad Khan has issued advisory for the public in general , owners and drivers of the vehicles in particular who are plying their vehicles on the J&K roads.
The IG has advised the people don’t drink, avoiding overloading, over-speeding, rash, negligent and dangerous driving as your life is precious. He further advised the people not to use black films, tinted glasses and curtains on the glasses of their vehicles as these have already been banned by the Apex Court all over the country.
Khan has said that double pillion (triple riding) on two wheelers is a serious offence which should be avoided. He advised that every person riding on a two wheeler in public place shall wear head gear (helmet). He said that no person shall drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds an valid driving license and asked the passenger vehicle drivers wear uniform and seat belts. He also advised for not smoking in public service vehicles as the smoking in these vehicles is a serious offence.
The IG advised that no passenger in public service vehicles be allowed to take the seats reserved for women and physically challenged persons. He impressed upon the drivers not to use mobile phone while driving as it is a recipe for disaster, adding that the drivers should always wear seat belts and do not drive under influence of liquor and intoxication which, he said, are offence as per law.
Khan has advised the drivers to display prominently fare chat list inside the vehicle in bold letters and also make judicious and responsible parking as a habit. He said that every commercial vehicle should be properly insured and the registration plate number of commercial vehicles should be written inside the vehicle also.
The IG said that use of shrill horns (pressure horns) are an offence which makes the driver of the vehicle liable for punishment under Motor Vehicle Act. He said that it is mandatory for the owner to register newly purchased vehicle with in a period of one month failing which the same shall be liable to seizure under law.
The IG said that registration plate should be displayed on the Motor vehicle in English language only. The vehicle registered outside the State and plying in the State should be got registered within prescribed period as required under law.
