BJP protests against Sheikh Nazir's statement independence for Kashmir

Jammu, January 10 (Scoop News) –Jammu city witnessed outburst of anger and resentment today when hundreds of BJP activists under the leadership of State President Jugal Kishore Sharma took out a protest march from party headquarters, which after passing through main bazars, culminated at City Chowk where the effigy of National Conference was burnt amid scuffle with a heavy contingent of police. The party activists were also carrying play-cards with slogans demanding prosecution of National Conference General Secretary Sheikh Nazir under sedition act and severe punishment to him for making statements demanding independence for Kashmir even while he is a member of the ruling party in the state. They were also raising slogans against the NC-Congress coalition.
Addressing the gathering at City Chowk, Jugal Kishore Sharma said that the utterances made by NC senior leader Sheikh Nazir are open sedition and a threat to the peace and unity of the country. He said that it is not for the first time that the NC leader has advocated independence but Sheikh Mohd. Abdullah had also made such statements for which he had to be jailed for more than two decades. He said the most unfortunate is the stoic silence on part of the Congress, which is a coalition partner of the present government of Omar Abdullah. He declared that the party will not sit mute on the issue and reach out to the masses to expose the real agenda of NC and the unstinted support of the Congress to NC.
National Executive Member & MLA Ashok Khajuria said that the recent statement of Sheikh Nazir is outcome of a disturbed mind which hardly needs any consideration but still his being General Secretary of the party, the NC leadership must explain the motive behind such a demand. He said that be it Sheikh Nazir, or any other member of the Sheikh family, it has become a routine for them to black mail the Union government by making such controversial and anti-national statements. He said that the right place for such ill persons is behind the bars.
The protest march organized by Jammu District Unit under its President Rajesh Gupta.
