Capacity building, skill development focused area: Omar
Modernization of ITIs receiving fillip: Viqar
Jammu, February 4 (Scoop News) –Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Monday said that capacity building of youth and upgradation of their skills has been flagged as focused area and is receiving due attention to enhance employability of youth to ensure them employment in open job market.
Receiving presentation on capacity building of ITIs here this afternoon, the Chief Minister said that training of trainers is key to impart modern skills to students and ensue their placement in open job market.
Omar Abdullah said that with the expansion of polytechnics and ITIs in the State during the last four years, his government has also initiated various measures to introduce new trades in these institutions and provide latest training to trainers so that students are made market ready and job relevant.
It was informed in the meeting that the government has introduced a scheme of upgradation of ITIs through PPP mode and 34 ITIs have been covered under this scheme so far. As many as 30 new trades have been introduced under this scheme and 40 existing trades have been upgraded to suit market trends. State Power Development Corporation has been involved as industrial partner in five ITIs, while NHPC, TATA Motors and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University have been involved under the scheme to upgrade the ITIs and make these centres of modern skill development.
Taj Group has also agreed for knowledge partnership with Jammu and Kashmir in the field of vocational education. The Department of Technical Education is also tying up with Maruti Suzuki India, Apparel Training and Design Centre, Foot Wear Design and Development Centre and Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology for their involvement in skill upgradation programme in the State.
Under the Skill Development for J&K Youth Programme 9583 youth have received training so far within and outside the State while 1238 youth have received training under Skill Development Initiative (SDI) and 1200 candidates are undergoing training at present.
Minister for Planning and Development, Ajay Sadhotra, Minister of State for Technical Education, Viqar Rasool, Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal, Principal Secretary Planning and Development, B. R. Sharma, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Commissioner Secretary Employment, Yedullah, Director Technical Education and representatives of BTGT were present in the meeting in which BTGT made the presentation about the module of capacity building in ITIs aimed at developing sufficient grass root level knowledge and bring systematic reforms in Vocational Institutions ensuring better employment for youth in open market.
Minister of State for Technical Education said that modernization of ITIs has been underlined as a thrust area by the government and focused attention is being given to train the trainers in latest technology and modules of trainings so that they in turn impart best possible trainings to the students.
