Avalanche warning for higher reaches of Kashmir division
Adequate stock of essentials available in Valley: Dr. Samoon

Srinagar, February 5(Scoop News) –According to Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, people living in snow bound areas of Gulmarg, Chowkibal and Tangdhar have been advised not to venture in steep avalanche prone slopes during the next 24 hours in view of the high danger of avalanches in these areas.
Accordingly, medium danger avalanche warning has been issued for next 24 hours for the snow bound areas of Uri, Nowgam, Keran, Machil, Bandipora, Gurez, Sonamarg, Drass and Kargil. People living in these snow bound areas have been advised not to venture in steep avalanche prone slopes.


Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon while taking stock of the available essential commodities in the Valley was informed that 24,296 metric tons of rice, 7473 metric tons of wheat and 1936 metric tons of sugar besides 264710 cylinders of LPG and 4896 kilolitres of kerosene oil are available for the consumers of the Valley.

To review the ongoing sewerage and drainage works being executed in Srinagar city, Dr. Asgar convened a joint meeting of officers of National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) and Urban Environment Engineering Department (UEED) here today.
Among others Chief Engineer, UEED, R.C. Gupta, Executive Director NBCC, S.K. Koul, Senior General Manager, NBCC, Rafiq Ahmad, Collector, Land Acquisition, Tehsildar South and other officers attended the meeting.
It was informed that under trunk sewerage in Srinagar city, NBCC has completed 90 percent of the work under execution while under lateral sewerage 97 percent has been completed. As many as Rs. 132 crore are being utilized on the execution of these works out of which Rs. 70 crores have been expended till date.
Regarding the implementation of Jawahar Lal Nehru Renewable Urban Mission, it was given out that sewerage work has been completed on 132 kms, out of which 60 kms have been tested by UEED. It was further informed that work is apace at Noor Bagh Sewerage Treatment Plant which shall be completed by March 2014 and shall benefit 4.5 lakh souls of Soura, Buchpora, Lal Bazar, Down Town, Mala Bagh, Rampora, Hawal and Nallamar road.
The five developmental schemes being executed by UEED at a cost of Rs. 2 crore out of which Rs. 62 lakh have been utilized till late, the meeting was informed.
Dr. Samoon exhorted upon the officers to expedite the ongoing sewerage and drainage works in Srinagar to facilitate the people. He also enjoined upon them to work with coordination and devotion to achieve the tangible targets within stipulated time....
