| Enchanting musical notes at SaMaPa Aalap 2013 | | 
Jammu, February 6 (Scoop News) –The ongoing Annual SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013, being presented in collaboration with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, J&K Police and Department of Tourism, Jammu, witnessed enchanting musical notes on the 6th Day of the festival. The festival acts like a musical balm creating cultural awareness and new avenues for the younger generation to come forward with career in the field of music. The concert session at the Govt. College for Women, Parade commenced with mesmerizing Sitar recital by Prof. Anupam Mahajan, a renowned musician from Delhi. She presented Alaap, Vilambit and Drutlaya Teentaal in Raga Ahir Bhairav demonstrating various laykari patterns. The purity of the essence of the Raga which was maintained in her recital is worth mentioning. Sh. Sachin Sharma on Tabla provided excellent accompaniment. The second sessions of the concert featured a scintillating vocal recital by renowned vocalist of Banaras Gharana, Pt. Bhola Nath Mishra. Starting with Raga Gujri Todi he presented Bandish ‘Maharaj Jagat Ke Palanhar, Rakheye Morey Laaj’ in Vilambit Ektaal. This was followed by Bandish ‘Van Ke Panchi Bhaye Bawre Aase Banu Bajaye Sawale’ in Madhyalaya Teentaal, Bandish ‘Jare Jare Bawna Ja Ja Re’ in Drut Ektaal and Bandish ‘Gunan Ke’ in Drut Teentaal. He concluded his recital with a Hori composition ‘Rang Daru Ge’ and Meera Bhajan ‘Payoje Maine’. His interacting with the young students left a magical spell on them who kept on singing various structures and compositions with him. He thanked SaMaPa for inviting him and said SaMaPa movement is similar to the 2 drops of vaccine given to young children against the diseases and SaMaPa is proving musical vaccine for the coming generations. He was brilliantly accompanied by Pandit Sarit Das on Tabla, Sh. Damodar Lal Ghose on Harmonium and Sh. Abid Hussain on Sarang. The concert was earlier inaugurated by the Dr. Veena Pandita, Principal in-charge, Prof. Jasmeet Kour and Dr. Kuldeep Raina of P.G. Deptt., Pt. Vijay Shankar Mishra, Senior musicologist, writer and music critic, and Vice President SaMaPa, Sufi Singer Ragini Rainu, Prof. Parveen Sabarwal and Santoor Maestro & Music Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori. The concert was witnessed by a number of students of the college and other music connoisseurs including Prof. Nischintik Sharma, Prof. Narayan Dutt Sharma and Prof. Poonam Kamotra. As part of the social issue which SaMaPa Aalap is carrying this year, renowned Pediatric Dentist Dr. Bhawna Kaul spoke about the problem of Child Labour in J&K. She made the audience aware of various problem and possible cure to the issue. She said all of us know some or the other who are either involved in the act and are victims of the problem and yet we don’t react adding that the need of the hour is to raise the voice against the issue today for a better tomorrow. Earlier Abhay Sopori spoke to the children and said that they are the future torchbearers of the culture of the country. He said music leads to overall personality development of a person making him more sensitive and balanced human being. He said that each child needs to understand that music is far above mere entertainment and the art and culture has to be placed at the same level where we keep Education, Tourism, defense, etc. as the growth of a civilization also depends upon its culture. He also spoke about the Child Labour issue requesting young students to deny shopping from a place where a child is working and tell the owner why they took this step so that he is forced to release. The management of the college thanked Abhay Rustum Sopori and SaMaPa for organizing the concert and enlightening the young children.
In another session at the Namdhari Dharamshal at Jammu in remembrance of Sri Sat Guruji, the young Namdhari children who are learning music presented their recital in Raag Basant in Parhtaal, which was a combination of Rupaktaal, Ektaal and Teentaal featuring Hakam Singh, Harpreet Kaur, Raginni Jaswal and Rupam Jaswal on Dilruba, Chanchal Singh, Jagdev Singh, Sarang Singh, Ganga Singh and Karam Singh on Tabla, Harbans Kaur, Mohinder Kaur, Maan Kaur and Tejpal Kaur on Vocals. This was followed by a soulful Flte recital by Sh. Ajay Prasanna presenting Raga Vachaspati and Pahadi Dhun. A large number of music connoisseurs attended the concert. Suba Sukhdev Singh, Head of the Namdhari Sangat, Jammu and Sardar Karam Singh, President of the Sangat and renowned musician of J&K Sardar Charan Singh felicitated Abhay Sopori and the performing musicians with bouquets and mementos. The President of the Sangat hailed the efforts of SaMaPa and Sopori family for reviving the cultural scenario in the State creating a new generation of music connoisseurs and performers. Abhay Sopori expressed his gratitude to all who have made the festival a success and also thanked the Sangat for being a part of the SaMaPa movement in preserving the cultural identity of the State and country. Smt. Jagdeep Kaur coordinated the proceedings of the concert.
The festival will feature Vocal recital by Pt. Bhoal Nath Mishra at the Lawrence Public School, Sidhra at 10:00 am and Violin recital by Pt. Santosh Nahar at 2:30 pm at MAM College.
