Divisive politics of BJP in JK:Vakil

Jammu, February 23 (Scoop News) -Former minister and AICC member Abdul Gani Vakil today said that Congress is committed to strengthening Article 370 and would oppose any move to dilute it tooth and nail. The forces trying to weaken or erode it were inimical to peace and tranquility, he said. Congress, he added will fight for it both inside the Parliament as well as outside. Coming down heavily on BJP for its divisive politics, Vakil said that in wake of prevailing sensitive situation in Kashmir no one should attempt to vitiate the atmosphere by issuing unproductive, uncalled for and discordant statements. This is the time when a kind of confidence is to be instilled in people of Jammu and Kashmir so that they come out of blue and lead a normal and peaceful life and those forces who are raising the issues like abrogation of Article 370 are doing it simply to meet their political ends and it has been seen in the past that when BJP were in power they talk of strengthening Article 370 and when out of power they talk of abrogation of Article 370. Vakil asked BJP to stay clear away from disturbing peace in the state and let the coalition government manage its affairs. He said Jammu and Kashmir, with the active support of central government, has come a long way in witnessing development, peace and prosperity and any such attempt to reverse this process would be countered head on, Vakil was addressing a meeting of Sevadal workers at Jammu which was presided over by Balvinder Singh Sambyal Chief J&K Sevadal.
While addressing the meeting Vakil appealed to the Hurriyat leaders to discontinue with the practices of announcing strikes which results into great inconveniences to general masses and give an opportunity to vested interests to loot the state exchequer. The socio-economic condition of Kashmir, Vakil said, was already jeopardized and continuing strikes and curfews will add to the miseries of people. He hoped that Hurriyat leaders would also help Jammu and Kashmir come back on rails.
Vakil also asked the government to not to suppress people and try to gradually lift curfews from remote areas where people were craving for essential services. Such curbs, he said severely damages economy and development. A good number of examinations of Kashmir University as well as other educational institutions have already been postponed and traders were also feeling chocked. Sensing the gravity of situation some relaxations must be given in some parts in a phased manner.
Addressing the meeting Balvinder Singh Sambyal cautioned the people against those forces who are raising sentimental issues for voting consideration only and has no interest in the development of the State or restoration of peace. He asserted that Sevadal workers will give a befitting reply to those forces who are bent upon vitiating peace and tranquility in the State.
Besides others who addressed the gathering include Chowdhary Mohammad Anwar Phambra General Secretary Sevadal, Jugal Kishore Sharma Sr. Vice President INTUC and many others.
