PDP’s Peer Mazhar Ali Shah, associates join NC | Rana predicts rout of PDP in 2014 | Mendhar/Jammu, March 2 (Scoop News) -Predicting total annihilation of People’s Democratic Party in 2014 elections because of its duplicity and anti-people policies, Provincial President National Conference Mr Devender Singh Rana on Saturday said the process of its degeneration has already begun. Welcoming renowned spiritual leader Peer Mazhar Ali Shah and his associates in National Conference at a massive rally at at Salwa in Mendhar this afternoon, Mr Rana said his joining will reinvigorate the party further, enabling it to achieve the cherished agenda of Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah making Jammu and Kashmir economically stable and politically vibrant state. Peer Mazhar Ali Shah joined the National Conference along with prominent workers after resigning from PDP. Owing to his influence in the entire Rajouri and Poonch belt, Peer Sahib’s joining NC is considered a major setback to People’s Democratic Party. On behalf of the party President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Mr Omar Abdullah, the Provincial President congratulated Peer Sahib and his associates for their sagacious decision. The Provincial President referred to the dubious role of PDP in dividing the people with a sinister objective of weakening National Conference from time to time and said in one manifestation or the other, the power hungry leaders have been intriguing against the legacy of Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah. Their role in 1984 and 1986 in destabilizing the democratically elected government of Dr Farooq Abdullah is no secret; he said adding that their anti-people role in 1990 brought the state to virtual disaster. “These elements have not given up; they tried their worst after 2008 elections by conspiring against Mr Omar Abdullah, in closed door secret meetings, fearing that a youthful leader taking over the command in state politics will retard their growth whatsoever”, he maintained. He said divisive politics of the parties like PDP and BJP are detrimental to the growth and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir which is facing peculiar problems on economic and political fronts that need unique treatment with a sense of urgency. He referred to the difficult situation created by vested interests in 2008 by inciting people on communal and regional basis. They again tried to vitiate the situation in 2009 and 2010 by encouraging unrest in the Valley, he said adding the sagacious leadership of Mr Omar Abdullah frustrated all their designs. He said the maneuvering of PDP exposed the people to enormous problems and brought the state to morass. However, he maintained that the situation was brought under control and a new era of peace dawned in 2011 that gave fillip to economic activity and tourism promotion. Mr Rana referred to the multi-pronged approach adopted by the National Conference with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah focusing on achieving the developmental agenda and seeking resolution of political issues simultaneously. He urged the party workers to expose double speak and negative politics of vested interests and speak forcefully about the achievements registered in various sectors despite difficult economic scenario. He urged party cadres at grassroots to work cohesively with focus on alleviating the sufferings of people. “People are fed up with rhetoric and emotive slogans being raised by vested interests”, he said while addressing party workers at Poonch, on the second day of his visit to Rajouri-Poonch belt, adding they look towards National Conference with a great deal of hope to steer them out of the difficult situation. He assured his party will maintain people’s sacred trust and continue to work for their betterment irrespective of caste, creed, colour or region as enshrined in the charter of National Conference. He said divisive politics of the parties like PDP and BJP are detrimental to the growth and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir which is facing peculiar problems on economic and political fronts that need unique treatment with a sense of urgency. National Conference, he said, is conscious of its responsibilities to meet these challenges courageously. He referred to the initiatives taken in this regard and said the party is committed to make Jammu and Kashmir a better and peaceful state to live in. Mr Rana referred to the multi-pronged approach adopted by the National Conference with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah focusing on achieving the developmental agenda and seeking resolution of political issues simultaneously. He urged the party workers to expose double speak and negative politics of vested interests and speak forcefully about the achievements registered in various sectors despite difficult economic scenario. The Provincial President attached immense significance to the involvement of people in developmental effort and said the Working President has devised a mechanism of seeking the opinion of cadres at grassroots on how to make the party more vibrant and give depth to the government’s welfare measures. He said feedback from the grassroots level is imperative for achieving the larger objective of putting all the three regions on path of faster development and economic resurgence. He said the mechanism of public hearings by the National Conference ministers at the party headquarters will go a long way in paying attention to the concerns and suggestions of the workers, who feel dissatisfied at times about their representatives in the government not paying the attention their problems deserve. Expressing satisfaction over larger youth participation in the party affairs, Mr Rana said this will galvanize National Conference to meet the challenges of future with much more confidence and vigour. “Youth hold promise for the future and National Conference leadership is keen to secure their participation in the decision making”, he said and welcomed the new entrants in the party fold. He stressed the crucial need of maintaining discipline, forging unity and foiling the attempts of opponents who want to divide the people of Jammu and Kashmir on communal and regional lines. “Such tendencies will have to be foiled by showcasing the great role of National Conference under the stewardship of towering Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah during most testing times, Dr Farooq Abdullah in equally difficult times. He said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is braving all odds in taking the state to pinnacles of peace and development and this effort needs cohesive public support. State Vice President National Conference Mr Rattan Lal Gupta, Central Secretary Mr Abdul Gani Malik, MLC Mr Javed Rana and former legislators Mr Nissar Ahmed Khan and Mr Rahim Daad also addressed the rally. Mr Gupta recalled the great contribution of Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and Madr-e-Mehrab Begum Abdullah in ameliorating the social and economic conditions of the people living in remote areas and referred to fillip in education due to their concerted efforts. He said the party will continue its mission of empowering the people and making them masters of their destiny. While exhorting the people for strengthening National Conference at grassroots level, Mr Abdul Gani Malik reiterated the party’s commitment in expanding the reach of utility services and developmental effort in every nook and corner of the State. He said weaker sections and those living in remote areas have immensely benefitted from the developmental initiatives taken by National Conference from time to time. Mr Javed Rana hailed the contribution of the border people in maintaining peace by braving difficult situations with fortitude. He decried the elements inimical to peace, saying their machinations have harmed the people and retarded the growth of progress. Mr Rana urged the people to strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for ensuring all round development of Jammu and Kashmir. Mr Rahim Dad congratulated Peer Sahib and hoped that he will guide the cadres for achieving the common objective of peace, development and progress for all. Saying that National Conference is a historic movement, Nissar Ahmed Khan exuded confidence that the party will steer the State to a new era of progress and development. Peer Mazhar Ali Shah, in his speech after joining he party, expressed confidence that National Conference will address to the problems facing the people of borders areas like Poonch and Rajouri. He eulogized the contribution of National Conference in the socio-economic transformation of the State, saying the party has been pioneer in implementing revolutionary programmes aimed at bettering the lot of people, especially those living remote and backward pockets. Earlier the Provincial President, accompanied by MLC Javed Rana addressed workers meeting at Block headquarters and inaugurated customized fixed desks lecture hall at Degree College, Mendhar. The Lecture hall has been constructed out of the Constituency Development Fund of Javid Rana. He also laid the foundation stone of Sports Mini Stadium at Chatral, Mendhar which has been long standing demand of the youth of the area this will also be constructed out of the CDF of the Javed Rana. Javed Rana said that National Conference has always remained alive to the problems of people particularly the youth. He said the facility of sports stadium will go a long with in sharpening the talent of youth belonging to far off area and enabling them to compete at state and national level with much more confidence.
