RBBA concern over Raghunath Bazaar beautification project

Jammu, March 7 (Scoop News) -A deputation of Raghunath Bazaar Businessmen Association (RBBA), led by its President Baldev Khullar called on the Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, KL Khajuria (IAS), to sort out with him the matters concerning the prestigious Raghunath Bazaar beautification project, in respect of works to be undertaken by JMC.
Mr Baldev Khullar was accompanied by all the office bearers, executive members and some senior members of the association, while the JMC Health Officer Vinod Sharma, Chief Khalaf Warzi officer Satish Khajuria and Executive Engineer JMC were present in the meeting.
The JMC commissioner agreed with the proposal by the association of upgrading historical ahatas of Raghunath Bazaar viz Ashoka Market, Janta Market and New Market. Mr Khullar informed the meeting that MLA Jammu City East, Ashok Khajuria has already announced grant of Rs 5 Lakh, out of his constituency development fund, for up gradation and beautification of these markets. The association demanded proper drainage system in these markets, to out flow the rainy water and other filthy liquid from these markets to the main sewerage drain in the bazaar. The commissioner agreed to this proposal and assured that if extra funds will be needed for the purposes, the JMC will provide the same.
The commissioner JMC also agreed to provide dustbins of approved design to be put outside every shop in the bazaar, for dumping garbage by the shopkeepers, which in turn will be collected by the safaikaramcharis to be deputed by the JMC. Two safaikaramcharis will be deployed on permanent basis in Raghunath Bazaar for collecting the garbage both in the morning and in the evening. The commissioner however, advised the association that they should ensure that no shopkeeper in the bazaar encroaches upon the footpath and keeps its wends there. The association assured him of full cooperation in the matter. It was also agreed that two servo transformers will be installed, one each at City Chowk and Raghunath Mandir Chowk, to feed the high mast lights in the bazaar.
The commissioner also assured to upgrade the toilet complex at Pratap Chowk, a by lane in the bazaar, by installing toilet seats as well as separate provision in the complex for females, to cater to the need of tourists and local shoppers coming in the bazaar.
In addition to accepting all these proposals put forth by the association, the JMC commissioner also told that the JMC will be deploying a battery car, on trial basis, in the bazaar to facilitate movement of elderly shoppers, particularly the tourists, from one end of bazaar to another. Mr KL Khajuria observed that placing of this battery car for the facility of tourists will carry a healthy message with the tourists, so that the experiment is tried in other cities also.
