Air force to drop fodder in Changthang Ladakh | | Leh, March 13 (Scoop News) -The remote Changthang nomadic settlements have been hit by more snowfall blocking the roads again leaving the nomads in great peril. It was about a month ago that Changthang witnessed heavy snowfall causing death of thousands of livestockoffical spokesman said. . He said that roads were then cleared with the help of Army and Para Military so that necessary relief items could be delivered to the affected communities living in Chumoor, Tegazong and Kharnak areas. In view of the access roads to these areas getting blocked again by snow Air Force has decided to run air sorties to the affected areas for dropping of feed and fodder on request of CEC, LAHDC. Wing Commander Operation of Air Force informed the CEC Rigzin Spalbar about Air Headquarter’s decision to operate air sorties towards relief and rescue measures for nomads caught up in snow. Spalbar also spoke to Corps Commander Leh asking him for providing belted fodder to Civil Administration on loan in order to carry out the air dropping of fodder in most inaccessible areas. Accordingly, the Army has agreed to provide 40 tons of belted fodder to save the surviving animals. In the meantime, District Administration is actively working on a coordination strategy as well as identification of snow affected zones where dropping of fodder is needed. ... |
