Mir awards progressive farmers for excellent performance
Asks them to produce more crops out of less available land
Srinagar, March 17 (Scoop News) – Urging farmers to produce more crops out of decreasing means of land, the Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir said that farmers should keep liaison with Agriculture experts for adoption of latest technologies.
The Minister was addressing Divisional Level Exhibition/Kissan Mela-Cum-Farmers award ceremony at SKICC today. The ceremony was organized by Department of Agriculture, Kashmir Division under Agriculture Technology Management.
The Minister of State for Agriculture and Horticulture, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi was also present on the occasion, whileas Vice Chancellor SKUAST, Kashmir, Dr. Tej Pratap and Director of various disciplines of Agriculture and allied sectors were also present, besides good number of progressive farmers.
Mir said that Agriculture department has introduced various innovative schemes to boost the agriculture during last 4 years. He said that however, need of the hour is that farmers especially youth in rural areas should adopt the agriculture wholeheartedly as a profession. He said Agriculture is not less income generative than any other sectors. However, self confidence is imperative for attaining self sufficiency.
The Minister asked Agriculture experts to ensure transformation of technology from lab to land. He said the department of Agriculture is establishing cold storage at each block. He said 1500 demonstration plots shall be established during ensuing agriculture season in Valley.
On the occasion, the Agriculture Minister distributed cheques worth Rs. 17 lakh among 114 progressive farmers as award for their excellent performance they have shown in producing more crops.
Earlier, the Minister expressed his satisfaction over the work done by Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone during his tenure.
The Minister of State for Agriculture and Horticulture, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi urged the farmers to adopt the latest developmental schemes in agriculture sector, adding farmers should work hard with zeal to produce more crops. He also called for maintaining liaison with Agriculture experts.
Vice Chancellor SKUAST Kashmir, Dr. Tej Pratap and Director Agriculture Kashmir, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone also spoke on the occasion.
