for security empowerment

Jammu, March 24 (Scoop News) – All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) which is an apex body of Panchayat members of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, has begin its 72 hour long huner strike at Jammu on Sunday to protest against the state and central governments for their failure to protect and empower Panchayat members of the state of Jammu and Kashmir . As per decision of the organization, announced by Chairman AJKPC Shafiq Mir, Only general secretary of the organization , Mr Anil Sharma, Sarpanch Raj Kumar and Spokesman of AJKPC Mr Ghulam Hassan Panzoo will sit on the hunger strike while other organization leaders will remain present on the occasion in their support .

“ We took this extreme decision after using all other efforts, from Jammu Kashmir to Delhi to save the democracy in the state of Jammu and Kashmir but neither state nor central government took any step to secure the Panchayat leaders in the state . Now the situation has again worsened when fidayeen attacks were being carried, army and BSF convoys were being attacked by militants in Jammu and Kashmir then what is the security of unprotected Panchayat leaders . We have already lost our five sarpanches and don’t want to loose any one more . With this hunger strike we want to make it clear that we were here for democracy but India never wanted to democracy flourish in this state that is why it has not taken any step to protect the Panchayat leaders”, said Anil Sharma and Ghulam Hassan Panzoo before sitting on hunger strike .

Thy further said that institution of Panchayats has completely failed in the state for which both the coalition partners were responsible . Both Sharma and Punzoo said that this was the shame for the system that they were forced to sit on hunger strike for democracy in the country which itself claims worlds largest democracy . “ It is very much astonishing that government spends crores of rupees on the security of separatist leaders but it has no security for Panchayat leaders . We demand implementation of 73rd amendment in the state of Jammu and Kashmir which is the only way to empower the Panchayats .

Unfortunately Congress has deviated from its promise and stand in this regard”, said Anil Sharma . “ Our prime concern at this moment is safety of Panchayat leaders who may soft target in the present prevailing situation of the state”, they added .
