JKVHA observes World TB Day at Sopore Kashmir
Sopore/ Srinagar, March 24 (Scoop News) –J&K Voluntary Health Association and District TB Society Baramulla under Axshya Project for TB Care and Control observed the World TB Day at Govt. Degree College Sopore. Dr. Haneef Balkhi, SDM Sopore was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The aim of the programme was to raise public awareness about tuberculosis and emphasise on the efforts made to prevent and treat this disease. The resource persons highlighted the importance of the day and provided necessary information to all the participants about the causes, symptoms, treatment, prevention of the disease and the ways to achieve the dream of “ZERO TB DEATHS IN MY LIFETIME”.
The program was attended by Dr. Ab.Rashid Chief Medical Officer Baramulla, Dr. Javid Iqbal DTO Baramulla, Dr. Wali Mohd. Shah Principal GDC Sopore, Faculty members of GDC Sopore, Block Medical Officers of Block Dangiwacha, Rohama and Kreeri, Dr.Parvez Shah Medical Officer TU Bandipora, Dr. M Y Yatoo Medical officer Sopore, RNTCP Staff of District Bla, Dr. Hilal Ahmad Axshya Partner, Balbir Singh District Coordinator Project Axshya JKVHA, Students of NSS Wing, Students of Welkin Educational Institute Sopore and members of the civil society.


The program started with the introductory speech by Dr. M Y Yatoo Medical Officer Sopore about Tuberculosis, its symptoms and treatment. He shared with the participants the prevalence and spread of the disease. This was followed by an informative lecture by Dr. Parvez Shah Medical officer TU Bandipora who gave a detailed lecture on the historical background of the disease. Balbir Singh, Coordinator Project Axshya highlighted the activities conducted in the district under Axshya Project and emphasised on the role of participants as members of the society in TB Care and Control. During his lecture a pledge was taken by all the participants that they would work at their individual level to fulfill the dream of “ZERO TB DEATHS IN MY LIFETIME”. Dr. Ab. Rashid CMO Baramulla highlighted the role played by RNTCP in TB control and assured of providing all types of support from District Health Authority. Principal GDC Sopore during his lecture thanked the organisers for arranging such an informative and useful program in GDC Sopore. Dr.Haneef Balki, SDM Sopore during inaugural speech asked all the participants to work together in coordination in order to get the desired indicators and reduce the chain of transmission. Dr. Javid Iqbal DTO Baramulla during his lecture shared with the participants the achievements of RNTCP in Baramulla and the problems faced by them on the field like social stigma, lack of coordination etc .All the participants showed keen interest in the program. A rally was also taken from GDC Sopore to District Tuberculosis Centre Sopore by the Students of Welkin Educational Institute and other participants. The rally was flagged off by SDM Sopore and CMO Baramulla. The Students holding placards, banners and raised Anti TB slogans and marched through lanes and by-lanes. The participants appreciated the role played by J&K Voluntary Health Association under Project Axshya in organising such programs and hoped that the organisation will continue with such endeavors in the future.
